The results of the study of 33 patients having gastroduodenal peptic ulcer, with 9 of them subjected to surgical treatment, are presented. The diagnostics of Helicobacter infection was made with the use of bacteriological and biochemical assays. The study revealed that in the overwhelming majority of cases peptic ulcer was associated with the presence of H.pylori, and the most informative method for the diagnostics of H.pylori infection was the bacteriological study of biopsies from the pyloric antrum characterized by the highest degree of massive contamination. The determination of ammonia co

PCR was performed for the detection of Helicobacter pylori in feces from 24 patients with proven infections. Several precautions were taken to overcome possible inhibition of PCR with feces. In the first 12 patients, feces were examined shortly after endoscopy. In another group of 12 patients, who were treated during 2 weeks with omeprazole (40 mg each day) to increase gastric pH, feces were examined as well. H. pylori target DNA could not be detected in the stools of any of the 24 infected patients. It was concluded that there was no substantial shedding of H. pylori in feces from either grou

Although Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is considered by many to be the major cause of primary antral gastritis (PAG), several important questions concerning its pathogenetic role remain unanswered. The most basic unresolved issue relates to the low prevalence of H. pylori in children in developed countries. If H. pylori is the cause of PAG, the prevalence of PAG should also be low, but previous studies have not provided data on this issue. To answer this question, we prospectively studied 408 children who underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy and biopsy from January 1, 1988, to December 31, 1

Helicobacter pylori infects half the global population. Because serious complications can result from this infection, a so-called "triple therapy" is recommended: treatment with a proton-pump inhibitor and clarithromycin, along with amoxicillin or metronidazole. Although these antibiotics have been associated with neuropsychiatric symptoms, it is difficult to disentangle the effects of antibiotics from the effects of acute infections that may precipitate acute neuropsychiatric symptoms. Study of patients with chronic H. pylori infections who undergo antibiotic treatment may provide a clearer v

Background. Persistent Helicobacter pylori infection may induce several upper gastrointestinal diseases. Two major virulence factors of H. pylori, vacuolating cytotoxin A (VacA) and cytotoxin-associated gene A (CagA), are thought to be associated with the severity of disease progression. The distribution of vacA and cag-pathogenicity island (cag-PAI) alleles varies in H. pylori isolated from patients in different geographic regions. Aim. To assess the association between mixed infection of H. pylori clinical isolates from Taiwanese patients and the severity of gastrointestinal diseases. Method

Background Although several studies have reported an association between Helicobacter bilis (H. bilis) and human biliary tract cancer, in vivo studies are necessary to further assess this phenomenon. In this study, we developed an animal model of H. bilis infection, determined whether oral exposure to H. bilis induces biliary carcinogenesis, and evaluated colonization and pathological changes. Methods Seven-week-old female Syrian golden hamsters were administered H. bilis via the intragastric route using a sonde and euthanized after two, four, 12, 24, and 48 weeks. We assessed the rate of bact

BACKGROUND: Non-Helicobacter pylori Helicobacter (NHPH) is not widely recognized as a cause of acute gastric mucosal lesions (AGML), as only a few cases of AGML caused by NHPH have been reported. We present here one case and examine the species and eradication of NHPH together with the three previously reported cases.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 52-year-old woman presented with a two-day history of severe epigastric pain, nausea, and vomiting. An esophagogastroduodenoscopy showed mucosal edema, multiple erosions, and ulcerations in the antrum. Biopsy specimens taken from the antrum revealed long spi

An 11-year-old boy with Helicobacter pylori-associated duodenal ulcer was successfully treated with a combination of lansoprazole, amoxicillin, and clarithromycin. Endoscopy and gastric biopsies were repeated 2 and 12 months later, showing ulcer healing and eradication of H. pylori. However, a 3-year follow-up study demonstrated H. heilmannii in the antral mucosa based on its characteristic morphology and positive urease test and negative culture. The patient had no contact with domestic animals such as cats and dogs. A 7-day course with lansoprazole, amoxicillin, and clarithromycin was perfor

BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is widely present in the human gastric mucosa and is closely associated with a variety of gastric diseases. Recent studies have found that H. pylori infection is closely associated with diabetic patients and may adversely affect their glucose metabolism and organ function. However, the effect of H. pylori infection on pathological changes in the body during a diabetic state remains unclear.
AIM: To investigate the effects of H. pylori infection on the physiology and pathological changes in the organs of diabetic mice.
METHODS: The diabetic mice mod

OBJECTIVE: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) represents a significant chronic health concern, affecting approximately half of the global population. While H. pylori infection has been closely linked to numerous extradigestive diseases, the relationship between H. pylori and lesions in the gallbladder and biliary tract remains under debate.
METHOD: We retrospectively collected data from patients who underwent H. pylori tests at the Physical Examination Center of Taizhou Central Hospital (Taizhou University Hospital) between 2018 and 2022. Logistic regression analysis and restricted cubic spline

Helicobacter pylori is an extremely common cause of gastritis that can lead to gastric adenocarcinoma over time. Approximately half of the world's population is infected with H. pylori, making gastric cancer the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Innate immunity significantly contributes to systemic and local immune responses, maintains homeostasis, and serves as the vital link to adaptive immunity, and in doing so, mediates H. pylori infection outcomes and consequent cancer risk and development. The gastric innate immune system, composed of gastric epithelial and myeloid

BACKGROUND: Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a chronic progressive liver disease caused by the immune system mistakenly attacking its own hepatocytes. The role of the gut microbiome in the pathogenesis and progression of AIH is of considerable significance. However, the dearth of suitable animal models has significantly constrained advancements in the pathogenesis and the development of therapeutic strategies for AIH. Helicobacter mastomyrinus (H. mastomyrinus, Hm) is a potentially zoonotic pathogenic microorganism capable of causing diseases of the enterohepatic system in rodent laboratory anima

Helicobacter pylori colonizes the human gastric mucosa and persists lifelong. An interactive network between the bacteria and host cells shapes a unique microbial niche within gastric glands that alters epithelial behavior, leading to pathologies such as chronic gastritis and eventually gastric cancer. Gland colonization by the bacterium initiates aberrant trajectories by inducing long-term inflammatory and regenerative gland responses, which involve various specialized epithelial and stromal cells. Recent studies using cell lineage tracing, organoids and scRNA-seq techniques have significantl

In Argentina, despite the important studies conducted on the prevalence of infection and the antibiotic resistance of Helicobacter pylori, there are no reports simultaneously analyzing a profile of virulence factors of the bacterium and polymorphisms in cytokine genes in patients with different alterations in the gastric mucosa (including intestinal metaplasia, IM). Our aim was to evaluate H. pylori genotypes in 132 adult patients with chronic gastritis presenting three different histological findings (inactive chronic gastritis, active chronic gastritis IM- and active chronic gastritis IM+) a
