BACKGROUND: Platelet transfusion can be lifesaving in dogs with severe thrombocytopenia and hemorrhage, but platelet products are limited by short shelf life and contamination risk. Cold-stored platelets (CSP) may provide a practical alternative, but in vivo hemostatic efficacy in dogs is unknown.
HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES: Evaluate the clinical hemostatic efficacy and safety of CSP transfusions in thrombocytopenic dogs.
ANIMALS: Twenty-four thrombocytopenic dogs from a veterinary teaching hospital population that received CSP transfusions between March 2022 and October 2024.

UNLABELLED: There are some indications in a few studies on animals and humans that the mucolytic agents N-acetylcysteine and erdosteine have a disruptive effect on the coagulation cascade. This study aimed to examine the effects of both erdosteine and N-acetylcysteine on the coagulation pathway.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The research was conducted on patients treated with N-acetylcysteine (600 mg/day) or erdosteine (600 mg/day) for 7-14 days. To evaluate the coagulation and hemogram parameters, blood samples were taken from patients before treatment and on days 7-14 after starting the treatment.

Distilled water is used worldwide to check on hemostasis at the end of pelvic oncological operations. Nevertheless, reports about this method are lacking. The aim of this study was to explain the method and to discuss possible side effects.
