Premature coronary heart disease complicated with hypertension in hospitalized patients: Incidence, risk factors, cardiovascular-related comorbidities and prognosis, 2008-2018.

BACKGROUND: The clinical characteristics and risk factors of all-cause mortality in young hospitalized patients with comorbid coronary heart disease and hypertension (CAD + HT) are not well-characterized. METHOD: A total of 2288 hospitalized CAD patients (age<45 years) with or without hypertension in the Chinese PLA General Hospital from August 5, 2008 to June 22, 2018 were conducted. The risk factors of all-cause mortality were estimated in young CAD + HT patients by COX models. RESULTS: The overall prevalence of hypertension in young CAD patients was 50.83% (n = 1163). CAD + HT patients ha

Time-of-day dependence of running averages for some components of metabolic panels at our hospital: Relation to strategy for patient-based quality control.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: We assessed properties of running averages for our hospital's most common chemistry analytes, for use in real-time patient-based quality control (PBQC). We determined whether there was dependence of any running averages on 24-h clock time (time-of-day, TOD). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We analyzed 3-months' data for measurements of 13 metabolic panel components. Running averages for 20 consecutive results (20-mers) were computed for data restricted to results within reference intervals. This produced an overall mean (X) and standard-deviation (SD) of 20-mers for each ana

Severe Immune-Related Adverse Events: A Case Series of Patients Needing Hospital Admission in a Spanish Oncology Referral Center and Review of the Literature.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) have revolutionized the landscape of cancer treatment. Although several studies have shown that ICIs have a better safety profile than chemotherapy, some patients develop immune-related adverse events (irAEs), which require specialized and multidisciplinary management. Since ICI indications are rapidly increasing, it is crucial that clinicians involved in cancer care learn to identify irAEs and manage them properly. Here, we report a case series of 23 patients with severe irAEs requiring hospitalization over a period of 12 months and seize the opportunity to

In-hospital outcome after trochanteric femur fractures is related to preoperative delay but not to the time of day of the procedure: a nationwide retrospective cohort study of 7184 patients.

INTRODUCTION: Hip fractures are a growing public health concern, and efficient management is critical. Surgical timing is a key modifiable factor influencing outcomes, but fracture-specific data - particularly for trochanteric fractures - remains limited. Moreover, concerns regarding the safety of nighttime surgery may contribute to procedural delays. AIM: This study investigates how time to surgery and timing of surgery (day vs. night) affect in-hospital complication and mortality rates in patients undergoing trochanteric fracture fixation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This nationwide registry st

Mortality, Hepatic Decompensation, and Cardiovascular- and Renal-Related Outcomes in Lean Versus Non-lean Patients Hospitalized With Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH).

INTRODUCTION: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is an important cause of cirrhosis and end-stage liver disease. In addition, there have been reports of worse extrahepatic outcomes, especially cardiovascular events, in patients with lean patients' fatty liver disease compared to the non-lean group. There is limited data on hepatic, cardiac, and renal outcomes in lean compared to non-lean patients with MASH. This study aims to evaluate the cardiovascular, renal, and hepatic outcomes in hospitalized US adults with MASH, focusing on a comprehensive comparison between lean and
