The motor responses of the caecum and colon to stimulation of alpha 2-adrenoceptors by xylazine and detomidine at the recommended dose levels of 0.6 and 0.1 mg/kg were investigated in three ponies. The effects of erythromycin on motor and electrical behavior of the antrum, pylorus, and duodenum were determined in chronically instrumented, awake dogs. BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. Laparoscopic lower rectal resections in accordance with the oncological principles are recommended as the gold standard for CRC surgical management. However, the learning curve for adopting these techniques is quite steep and the incomplete resections are predictive of local recurrence. A 66-year-old lower-extremity amputee with an acute femoral artery occlusion was treated with low-dose (10000 units/h) percutaneous constant-infusion streptokinase. At 48 hours after initiation of therapy, the patient experienced adult respiratory distress syndrome and died. A postmortem examination confirmed the diagnosis; laboratory studies reflected an increased level of fibrinolytic split products, thrombocytopenia, and a low level of fibrinogen.

We examined the occurrence of brain infarction with hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy for liver cancer. One hundred and eighty-one cases of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy were carried out for liver cancer patients in 4 hospitals associated with Osaka University 2nd Dept. of Surgery. These included metastatic (n = 103) and primary (n = 78) liver tumors. The medication was mainly 5-FU with/without CDDP and IFN.
