Primary leiomyosarcoma of the parotid gland is an extremely rare neoplasm. We here describe the case of a 78-year-old male patient presenting with such a tumor. Five years after surgical treatment, the patient is alive and recurrence-free. To our knowledge, our case represents just the sixth case of primary leiomyosarcoma of the parotid gland reported in the English literature. The clinical features of these cases are summarized.

We present a new case of leiomyosarcoma, a very rare clinical entity, arising from the renal pelvis. The primary diagnosis, based on asymptomatic gross hematuria and imaging findings, was tumor of the left kidney. After a left radical nephro-ureterectomy, histology confirmed a leiomyosarcoma of the renal pelvis. No adjuvant treatment was provided and the patient remains healthy 3 years after surgery.

A 61-year-old man presented to our hospital with a 1.5-year history of a gradually enlarging mass in the left scrotum. The mass was apart from the testis and fixed to the spermatic cord. The firm consistency and heterogeneous expression on ultrasonography suggested a malignant tumor. OBJECTIVE: To report an additional case of paratesticular leiomyosarcoma.
METHODS: Herein we describe a 68-year-old male patient that presented with a growing, indolent, right inguinoscrotal lesion that he had noted several weeks earlier. Physical examination showed a mass involving the distal right spermatic cord and was confirmed by ultrasound and CT. Analyses were normal. Radical orchidectomy with high ligation of the right spermatic cord was performed.

We describe herein a case of primary leiomyosarcoma of the breast in a 59-year-old woman. Preoperative clinical examination and cytology findings indicated a benign breast tumor, but intraoperative histopathological examination of the tumor revealed malignant spindle cells, and a modified radical mastectomy was performed. Immunohistochemical analysis subsequently confirmed a diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma. A patient with a history of an uterine leiomyosarcoma presented with diplopia, gait disturbances, and hypesthesia of the right face. MRI of the head showed a lesion located in the pons and causing obstructive hydrocephalus. Open biopsy revealed a metastatic tumor with histological features of leiomyosarcoma. Despite whole-brain irradiation, the patient died due to respiratory arrest. This case illustrates that brain stem metastasis may occur as a rare complication in uterine leiomyosarcoma.

The behavior of leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is site related, but there are limited data on such tumors presenting in the paratesticular region. Cases diagnosed as LMS of the paratesticular region from the files of three institutions were reviewed. Immunohistochemistry was performed in cases with available blocks, and follow-up information was obtained. From 31 cases originally diagnosed as LMS, 24 were retained after review. BACKGROUND: Leiomyosarcoma is an uncommon small bowel tumor. About 60 cases of a Meckel's diverticulum localization have been reported. We present a very rare form of leiomyosarcoma arising in a Meckel's diverticulum, mimicking a very large abdominal cyst.
CASE REPORT: Abdominal ultrasound evidenced a voluminous cystic mass in the abdomen of a 37-year-old man consulting for abdominal discomfort. Computed tomography visualized a tissular component with contrast uptake. Laparotomy was performed with resection of a 4 liter cyst on the Meckel's diverticulum. Histology reported leiomyosarcoma.

A 43-year-old Asian woman who was initially seen because of hematemesis later had a gastric leiomyosarcoma diagnosed. Epigastric palpation, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging assisted in determining the size, borders, and location of the tumor while a second esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed friable gastric mucosa with erosions. Leiomyosarcoma is a rare tumor that originates in the smooth muscle, usually in the gastrointestinal tract, the retroperitoneum and the genitourinary tract. The omentum has been rarely reported as a primary site of occurrence with leiomyosarcoma. A 72 year-old woman, with palpable mass on the left upper quadrant of abdomen and weight loss, was admitted to St. Paul's Hospital. Leiomyosarcoma is an uncommon malignant tumour of the pancreas. Many retroperitoneal leiomyosarcomas grow silently and are extremely large when diagnosed. We report a 45 year old lady who presented with abdominal lump and haemoptysis. Ultrasound guided biopsy of the mass revealed a pancreatic leiomyosarcoma. The patient had lung metastasis and received chemotherapy. She is alive with disease at last followup.

Leiomyosarcoma of the colon is a rare tumor, with fewer than 45 cases being reported by 1980. Wide resection, 10 cm margin, and adjacent mesentery will decrease chances of locoregional relapse. We recently encountered two leiomyosarcomas in the colon in the past two years. We report a case of leiomyosarcoma whose origin was near the root of ileocecal mesentery and extended into the retroperitoneum. Preoperative imaging examination, including CT, MRI and angiography clearly displayed its origin and retroperitoneal extension. These results contributed to treatment planning.

A 63-year-old man presented with painless hard swelling of left scrotal contents. Left orchiectomy with high ligation of the spermatic cord was done with clinical diagnosis of testicular tumor. Histopathologically, this tumor was diagnosed as leiomyosarcoma, primarily, arising from the spermatic cord. After operation, prophylactic radiotherapy (60Co, 5,890 rad) was given locally. There has been neither local recurrence nor metastasis for 10 months after operation. This is the 18th case of leiomyosarcoma of the spermatic cord in Japan.

We report autopsy findings for a case of leiomyosarcoma originating in the right lung in an 86-year-old man. We surveyed current literatures and compared the immunohistochemical results in the present case with those reported previously in Japan. The solid tumor measured 6 x 7 x 7 cm sized and was located in the right lung. Its cut-surface appeared grayish to yellowish and contained areas of hemorrhage and necrosis. The authors report a complicated leiomyosarcoma gastric case with hemoperitoneum. The exploratory laparotomy reveals an hemoperitoneum constituted from both gastric tumors. One was localised in the antrum and was encapsulated, the other in the cardia and had an encephaloid and necrotized core. The pathological examination of the total gastrectomy piece is consistent with a double gastric localisation of a leiomyosarcomosis. 5 years after the initial operation, the patient developed hepatic metastases. A review of literature allows the authors to make the point of this disease.

Primary intestinal leiomyosarcomas in children are unusual tumors with little known about their natural history. Two patients (aged 9 and 10 years) with leiomyosarcoma of the jejunum treated at our institution are reported and added to the 20 other patients reported in the literature.
