Therapeutic approaches for neonatal abstinence syndrome: a systematic review of randomized clinical trials.

Neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) which is observed in 55-94% of the newborns from opioids-taking mothers produces deleterious neurological symptoms. Various pharmacological therapies have been investigated in neonates with NAS. This article reviews all studies on NAS treatment to analyze the duration of treatment, length of hospitalization and possible drug adverse effects. The search was limited to the randomized clinical trials which examined the treatments of neonates with NAS. Scientific databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library, ISI Web of Science, Embase and Scopus were systematical

Literature review: impacts of socioeconomic status on the risk of inflammatory bowel disease and its outcomes.

The relationship between socioeconomic status (SES) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is controversial. To date, research has focused on effects on incidence and prevalence, disease management and clinical outcomes; however, conclusions remain uncertain. This review examines current evidence, identifies what remains to be understood and explores the practical implications this has for today. A structured literature search in Ovid, Medline, the Cochrane library, Google Scholar and clinicaltrials.gov was performed using defined key words, including all articles up until 5 October 2016 assessi

Meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials on the safety and effectiveness of early versus delayed laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis.

BACKGROUND: : In many countries laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis is mainly performed after the acute episode has settled because of the anticipated increased risk of morbidity and higher conversion rate from laparoscopic to open cholecystectomy. METHODS: : A systematic review was performed with meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials of early laparoscopic cholecystectomy (ELC; performed within 1 week of onset of symptoms) versus delayed laparoscopic cholecystectomy (performed at least 6 weeks after symptoms settled) for acute cholecystitis. Trials were identified from

The role of digital tools and artificial intelligence in supporting antimicrobial stewardship: Study protocol for a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Since the post-antibiotic era, there has been significant difficulty in treating infectious diseases due to the increase in antimicrobial resistance, the scarcity of new antimicrobials, and the complexity of the healthcare system. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognized it as one of the main public health problems. To mitigate this issue, Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (ASPs) have been established in hospital settings and in primary care, through multidisciplinary teams with specific objectives and measurable results. However, their implementation faces multiple challe
