Noninvasive lifting of arm, thigh, and knee skin with transcutaneous intense focused ultrasound.

BACKGROUND: Transcutaneous intense focused ultrasound is a novel Food and Drug Administration-approved technology for noninvasive skin tight … significant improvement in all treated areas, with the upper arms and knees demonstrating more skin lifting and tightening than the thighs. Areas receiving dual-plane treatment had slightly better clinical scores than those receiving single-plane treatment in all three sites. Clinical scores from single-plane and dual-plane treated areas continued to impr …

Electromyography of the thigh muscles during lifting tasks in kneeling and squatting postures.

Underground coal miners who work in low-seam mines frequently handle materials in kneeling or squatting postures. To assess quadriceps and h … lar position of the load lifted (p < 0.001). Muscles of the right thigh were most active during the lifting portion of the task (lifting a block from the participant's right) and activity decreased as the block was transferred to the left. Left thigh muscles showed the opposite pattern. EMG activity for the majority of thigh muscles was affected by the si …

Effect of platelet-rich plasma on sinus lifting: a randomized-controlled clinical trial.

OBJECTIVE: The combination of anorganic bovine bone (ABB) with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been widely used in bone regeneration procedur … ircumstances coincided. CONCLUSIONS: PRP is not a determining factor for implant survival in sinus lifting procedures. However, this study revealed that PRP can improve the osteoconductive properties of ABB by increasing the volume of new bone formed. Moreover, in sinus augmentation procedures the implant's survival rate appears to be more influenced by …

High SMAS facelift: combined single flap lifting of the jawline, cheek, and midface.

The traditional low cheek SMAS flap elevated below the zygomatic arch suffers the drawback that it cannot, by design, exert an effect on tissues of the midface and infraorbital region. Low designs target the lower cheek and jaw only and produce little if any improvement in the upper anterior cheek and midface area. Planning the flap higher, along the superior border of the zygomatic arch, and extending the dissection medially to mobilize midface tissue overcomes this problem and allows a combined, simultaneous lift of the jawline, cheek, and midface with a single unified flap. An improved outc

The effect of a repetitive, fatiguing lifting task on horizontal ground reaction forces.

There are many outdoor work environments that involve the combination of repetitive, fatiguing lifting tasks and less-than-optimal footing (muddy/slippery ground surfaces). The focus of the current research was to evaluate the effects of lifting-induced fatigue of the low back extensors on lifting kinematics and ground reaction forces. Ten participants performed a repetitive lifting task over a period of 8 minutes. As they performed this task, the ground reaction forces and whole body kinematics were captured using a force platform and magnetic motion tracking system, respectively. Fatigue was…

[Injuries and damage caused by excess stress in body building and power lifting].

A questionnaire, designed to elict information about training programs, experience and injury profile, was administered to 358 bodybuilders and 60 powerlifters. This was followed by a clinical orthopedic and radiological examination. The upper extremity, particulary the shoulder and elbow joint, showed the highest injury rate. More than 40% of all injuries occurred in this area. The low back region and the knee were other sites of elevated injury occurrences. Muscular injuries (muscle pulls, tendonitis, sprains) were perceived to account for 83.6% of all injury types. Powerlifting showed a twi…

Comparison of Conventional Transcrestal Sinus Lift and Ultrasound-Enhanced Transcrestal Hydrodynamic Cavitational Sinus Lift for the Filling of Subantral Space: A Human Cadaver Study.

The implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation of the posterior maxilla may require sinus-grafting procedures due to poor quality and low volume of bone. This can be accomplished using a "lateral window" sinus augmentation or with an osteotome sinus floor elevation (OSFE). The hydrodynamic ultrasonic cavitational sinus lift (HUCSL) (Intralift) is derived from the osteotome technique and allows the reduction of some of the traumatic effects of the osteotome technique. The aim of this study was to compare OSFE and the HUCSL procedures on fresh human cadaver heads. Primary outcomes were the heig

Effects of squat lift training and free weight muscle training on maximum lifting load and isolinetic peak torque of young adults without impairments.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Manual lifting is a frequent cause of back injury, and there is no evidence as to which training mode can provide the best training effect for lifting performance and muscle force. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a squat lift training and a free weight muscle training program on the maximum lifting load and isokinetic peak torque in subjects without known neuromuscular or musculoskeletal impairments. SUBJECTS: Thirty-six adults (20 male, 16 female) without known neuromuscular or musculoskeletal impairments participated. The subjects' mean age wa…

Lifting the Lid on Best Practice in a Case of Oligometastatic Breast Cancer.

BACKGROUND: Ophthalmic metastases are uncommon, and rarely seen in the eyelid. Existing literature to inform post-operative management is limited. CLINICAL CASE: We present the case of a 63-year-old woman, diagnosed with oligometastatic breast carcinoma after presenting to her general practitioner (GP) with a recurrent right upper eyelid lesion postsurgical excision. Eight years previously, she had received surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy, radiotherapy and endocrine therapy for a left grade 2, oestrogen receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative breast canc

[Persistent back pain after lifting trauma. From the trivial to the rare case].

A 55-year-old patient presented with persistent back pain after a lifting injury. Later, buttock pain and hypaesthesia of the left knee developed. MRI revealed a lesion at lumbar vertebral body L3, histologically confirmed as a conventional chordoma. Chordomas are rare, locally aggressive tumors of notochordal origin with a high recurrence rate and require specialized treatment. A two-stage en-bloc spondylectomy with dorsal decompression and anterior cage implantation was performed on the patient. Postoperatively, there were motor deficits in hip flexion and knee extension, while distal streng…

Biomechanical differences in lower limb movements during lifting tasks before and after fatigue.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of fatigue on lower limb kinematics and kinetics during manual lifting tasks and to quantitatively analyze these effects in order to provide guidance for safe work practices. METHODS: Twenty healthy male college students performed lifting tasks with two load conditions (15 kg, low load; and 25 kg, high load) before and after fatigue. An eight-camera 3D motion capture system and two force plates were used to collect surface marker trajectories and ground reaction force data. Inverse kinematics and inverse dynamics analyses were conducted using OpenSim to c…

Unilateral Resistance Training Can Be Tailored Using Lifting Velocity in Breast Cancer Patients.

We aimed to study the feasibility of velocity-based training (VBT) to individualize load and velocity loss (VL) during unilateral bench press (UBP) in breast cancer survivors, as well as to analyze possible asymmetries between their operated and non-operated limbs. Twelve post-surgical breast cancer survivors performed progressive UBP assessments with each arm up to one-repetition maximum (1RM) to determine individual load-velocity profiles. Mean propulsive velocity and mean velocity were modelled against%1RM using second-order polynomial regressions. In separate sessions, participants perform

Evaluation of Lifting Techniques Using Optoelectronic Systems with Knee Range of Motion Restrictions.

This study explored the effect of knee range of motion (ROM) restrictions on lumbar spine kinematics and posterior chain muscle activity during squat and stoop lifting tasks. This relationship reflects the concept of regional interdependence, where impairments in one anatomical area may influence others, a key principle in the kinetic chain approach. Fifteen healthy adults performed squat and stoop lifting tasks under three knee ROM conditions (squat: free/0-60°/0-90°; stoop: free/0°/0-30°) using optoelectronic motion capture and electromyographic (EMG) systems. One-way analysis of variance wa…

Lateral Eyebrow Lifting and Eye-Opening Point Injection With Botulinum Neurotoxin: Anatomical Perspective.

BACKGROUND: The orbicularis oculi muscle plays a critical role in eye-opening and closure. Identifying precise injection sites for botulinum … ns effectively reduces involuntary muscle contractions, facilitating easier eye-opening and eyebrow lifting. The anatomic specificity of this site minimizes risks to surrounding muscles. These findings suggest potential clinical applications for enhancing eyelid function and esthetic outcomes. Further research with larger samples and long-term studies is …

Estimation of lower back muscle force in a lifting task using wearable IMUs.

Low back pain is commonly reported in occupational settings due to factors such as heavy lifting and poor ergonomic practices, often resulting in significant healthcare expenses and lowered productivity. Assessment tools for human motion and ergonomic risk at the workplace are still limited. Therefore, this study aimed to assess lower back muscle and joint reaction forces in laboratory conditions using wearable inertial measurement units (IMUs) during weight lifting, a frequently high-risk workplace task. Ten able-bodied participants were instructed to lift a 28 lbs. box while surface electrom…

An Exploration of the Influence of Non-Biomechanical Factors on Lifting-Related LBP.

Objective: The primary objective was to compare non-biomechanical factors between manual workers with and without a history of LBP related to lifting. A secondary objective was to investigate associations between the change in pain intensity during repeated lifting (termed pain ramp) and non-biomechanical factors tested in the LBP group. Methods: Manual workers currently in lifting occupations with and without a history of lifting-related LBP were recruited (21 LBP and 20 noLBP) and took part in a repeated (100) lift task. A series of non-biomechanical factors, including psychological, work-re…

Jawline Refinement in Face Lifting: The Five Zones and the Five-Step Technique✰.

Facial aging changes due to increased skin laxity as well as soft tissue atrophy and decent lead to blunting and distortion of previously well-defined zones of the face and neck. A critical component of re-establishing a youthful appearance during facelift and neck lift surgery is restoring a well-defined mandibular contour. Key principles of jawline refinement include the addition of volume to deficient areas and removal of volume in areas of unwanted fullness to re-establish facial harmony in the lower face and neck. In this article, we describe a novel classification of jawline zones and di
