BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to ascertain which factors determine success of sentinel node biopsy (SNB).
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective review of 121 patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma undergoing SNB to stage the neck. All patients underwent the triple-diagnostic procedure of preoperative lymphoscintigraphy, intraoperative blue dye, and a gamma probe. Factors contributing to failure of SNB were identified.

Chyluria, a symptom that is very rare in the western world, describes the excretion of chyle into the urogenital system. We present the case of a 61-year-old woman with a severe form of nonparasitic chyluria. We were able to detect the fistula due to a newly developed diagnostic combination of Sudan III red with ureterorenoscopy. Prior to this, we had performed a lymphoscintigraphy twice without detecting the lymphorenal fistula, although lymphoscintigraphy is the current diagnostic standard. This is the first case report of severe, nonparasitic chyluria.

In this study we have evaluated 301 internal mammary lymphoscintigraphies. The results were compared with the histology of internal mammary lymphoscintigraphies, lymphatic chain and axillary lymph nodes, with the anatomo-pathological stage of the disease, with primary tumor site, and also with patients survival. The influence of breast surgery and radiotherapy on the internal breast is shown in the results of the said 301 internal breast lymphscannings. We understand LCMI as a procedure that helps to evaluate the disease stage, to plan therapeutics, to provide a prognosis factor.
