Acute toxic hepatitis was modeled in (CBAxC57B1)F1 mice by single injection of 40% CCl(4) in oil. Pretreatment with gadolinium chloride, a selective blocker of Kupffer cells, considerably potentiated damage to hepatocytes leading to generalization of this process, delayed inflammatory infiltration, and inhibited reparative processes. Zymosan administered against the background of gadolinium chloride blockade improved liver resistance to CCl(4)-induced damage, intensified mononuclear infiltration, and accelerated reparative processes.

Parameters of the infectious activity of B.mallei and B.pseudomallei for animals of various species were determined. Pathomorphological characteristics of the process of malleus and melioidosis were studied on golden hamsters, mice, guinea pigs, rats and monkeys. Tularemia, plague and salmonellosis vaccines were shown to have protective effects in experimental malleus and melioidosis. An insignificant cross immune response between the malleus and melioidosis pathogens was observed.

Leishmania major causes cutaneous leishmaniasis in mice and man. Na-beta-glycerophosphate was added to the organ culture medium of mice marrow fragments. New bone ground substance is formed, its mineralization degree and morphology being highly dependent upon glycerophosphate addition and removal periods. Complete or partial ground substance mineralization occurs, in last case calcium insoluble salts may be found in young apical or in old basal parts only. Ground substance deposition and mineralization dynamics in vitro is discussed, paying attention to possibility of demineralization process.

Interrelation of erythropoiesis and immune response was studied in mice of various lines infected with mycoplasma species, Shigella flexneri 2a and Rauscher leukemia virus (R-MLV). Intensity of erythropoiesis was estimated by the endocolonization data of sublethally irradiated mice and 59Fe incorporation, while immune reactivity--by generation of splenic antibody-forming cells in response to immunization with sheep erythrocytes. Possible effect of bone marrow cells on liver regeneration was studied in mice injected with a mixture of hepatotoxins (allyl alcohol and CCl4) in a dose equal to LD50. Tetrathiomolybdate, an anticopper drug, has been shown to protect mice against pulmonary fibrosis from bleomycin. Our hypothesis is that it does so by inhibiting fibrosis-inducing cytokines.
