Analytical parameters to check association between load carriage system and bag packs-influenced musculoskeletal complications among school going students: a scoping review.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the correlation between load-carriage systems and backpacks on musculoskeletal complications among school-going students. Additionally, the purpose was to identify research gaps and provide recommendations for future research. METHODS: To conduct this study, we conducted a thorough search of five databases for literature published between January 2010 and December 2022. Our focus was on original published articles that reported musculoskeletal complications using analytical parameters or outcome measures among school-going students. Two reviewers indep

Ulnar Longitudinal Deficiency with Postaxial Polydactyly: A Case Report.

CASE: We present a unique case of bilateral ulnar longitudinal deficiency (ULD) with concurrent postaxial polydactyly (PAPD) in a 2-month-old boy, an association that has not previously been described. CONCLUSION: ULD, a rare musculoskeletal anomaly, often manifests with complex digital abnormalities. ULD may be associated with other musculoskeletal differences and congenital heart anomalies, necessitating comprehensive evaluation. Considering the Sonic hedgehog-Patched-Gli pathway's role in limb development, we discuss potential genetic mechanisms underlying this dual anomaly. This case broa

Musculoskeletal ultrasonography in gout.

Gout is a frequent inflammatory disease induced by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in joints and extra-articular tissues. The natural history of the disease includes four different phases: asymptomatic hyperuricemia, acute attacks, intercritical phase, and chronic tophaceous gout. Imaging techniques have several applications in the diagnosis, clinical monitoring and management of the disease but particularly, musculoskeletal ultrasound is able to detect a wide set of abnormalities in gout. This review reports the most relevant findings detectable by ultrasound and the current avail

Clinical spectrum of skeletal abnormalities and mitral valve prolapse and their clinical implications.

Fifty-six patients were diagnosed to have mitral valve prolapse (MVP) syndrome by auscultatory criteria, confirmed by cross-sectional echocardiography. Complete physical examination and x-ray of the bony thorax revealed bony deformities which were subdivided into four main groups according to the predominant deformity. Shallow chest with pectus excavatum, straight back, kyphoscoliosis and elliptical chest in marfanoid patients were reported in the cases studied. It is concluded that musculoskeletal abnormalities have to be considered as nonauscultatory features of MVP. Therefore, any patient w…

Sprengel's deformity: association with musculoskeletal dysfunctions and tethered cord syndrome.

Sprengel's deformity is a rare and complex congenital deformity of the shoulder girdle. The deformity commonly occurs sporadically, though in combination with other congenital anomalies, such as congenital scoliosis, fusion of cervical vertebrae, and conditions like Klippel-Feil syndrome may coexist. We report a case of a 14-year-old girl with bilateral Sprengel's deformity presenting with a progressive bilateral lower limb weakness and gait abnormality. Radiological investigations demonstrated multiple musculoskeletal abnormalities on x-ray and lumbar spina bifida occulta causing tethering of…

Treatment of Dystonia Using Trihexyphenidyl in Costello Syndrome.

Costello syndrome (CS), a rare syndrome with multisystemic involvement inherited as a dominant trait, is characterized by developmental delay, coarse facial appearance, cardiac defects including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, skin abnormalities, brain complications, and a predisposition to certain malignancies. The musculoskeletal system is particularly affected in CS, with peculiar orthopedic anomalies that impact posture and gait. Dystonia has been recently documented to contribute to abnormal postures and musculoskeletal anomalies characterizing CS, suggesting the possible use of pharmacologi

Popliteal Artery-Related Pathologies in Athletes-A Primer for Musculoskeletal Radiologists.

Vascular complications in athletes are common and mimic musculoskeletal injuries such as muscle sprains, fractures, and cartilage abnormalities. They include traumatic vascular injuries and more subtle pathologies like entrapment syndromes, pseudoaneurysms, arterial occlusions, and venous thrombosis. Such vascular complications may be occult on imaging and can be difficult for a musculoskeletal radiologist to diagnose, resulting in a lack of timely diagnosis and potentially limb-threatening consequences. Although the final diagnosis may require multidisciplinary input from orthopaedic, sports

Hybrid Deep Learning Approach for Automatic Detection in Musculoskeletal Radiographs.

The practice of Deep Convolution neural networks in the field of medicine has congregated immense success and significance in present situations. Previously, researchers have developed numerous models for detecting abnormalities in musculoskeletal radiographs of upper extremities, but did not succeed in achieving respectable accuracy in the case of finger radiographs. A novel deep neural network-based hybrid architecture named ComDNet-512 is proposed in this paper to efficiently detect the bone abnormalities in the musculoskeletal radiograph of a patient. ComDNet-512 comprises a three-phase pi

Higher incidence of linked malformations in siblings of Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser-syndrome patients.

BACKGROUND: Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome is a malformation of the female genital tract (vaginal aplasia, rudimentary uterus, normal fallopian tubes and high ovaries). The incidence is one in 4000 female newborns. The aim of the present study was to record genital and associated malformations among siblings and relatives of MRKH patients in order to draw possible conclusions regarding the etiology of the syndrome: heredity (dominant versus recessive) or spontaneous malformation. METHODS: Using a standardized questionnaire, affected MRKH patients were asked about other cases o

Magnetic resonance neurography in the diagnosis of neuropathies of the lumbosacral plexus: a pictorial review.

Magnetic resonance neurography (MRN) is an important tool to detect abnormalities of peripheral nerves. This pictorial review demonstrates the MRN features of a variety of neuropathies affecting the lumbosacral plexus (LSP) and lower extremity nerves, drawn from over 1200 MRNs from our institution and supplemented by the literature. Abnormalities can be due to spinal compression, extraspinal compression, malignancy, musculoskeletal disease, iatrogenesis, inflammation, infection, and idiopathic disorders. We discuss indications and limitations of MRN in diagnosing LSP neuropathies. As MRN becom
