Bringing impacted mandibular second premolars into occlusion.

Impaction of the mandibular second premolars is relatively rare and may offer general dentists and orthodontists special challenges during treatment. The authors discuss two cases involving impacted mandibular second premolars that had migrated before eruption. Surgical and orthodontic therapies were used to bring the teeth into occlusion. The authors emphasize early diagnosis and a collaborative approach between the dental professionals involved in treating these affected patients.

[Christ-Siemens-Touraine syndrome. Therapeutic case review].

The Christ-Siemens-Touraine syndrome, or anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia, presents three principal signs: anhidrosis or hypohidrosis, hypotrichosis and anodontia or hypodontia. This syndrome is of particular interest to stomatologists and orthodontists because of the particular therapeutic problems raised by the anodontia and associated skeletal anomalies. A case is reported in which the principal clinical sign was anodontia, and the various therapeutic options currently available are discussed.

A 3D dental model dataset with pre/post-orthodontic treatment for automatic tooth alignment.

Traditional orthodontic treatment relies on subjective estimations of orthodontists and iterative communication with technicians to achieve desired tooth alignments. This process is time-consuming, complex, and highly dependent on the orthodontist's experience. With the development of artificial intelligence, there's a growing interest in leveraging deep learning methods to achieve tooth alignment automatically. However, the absence of publicly available datasets containing pre/post-orthodontic 3D dental models has impeded the advancement of intelligent orthodontic solutions. To address this l…

Esthetic and functional rehabilitation of severe facial asymmetry and dental attrition in a patient with hemifacial microsomia: an interdisciplinary treatment outcome.

The treatment management of patients with hemifacial microsomia (HM) includes both surgical and nonsurgical approaches and depends primarily on the degree of deformity of the facial and skeletal structures. In this context, the combined efforts of the maxillofacial surgeon, the orthodontist, and the prosthodontist are essential for a satisfactory functional and esthetic outcome. Case presentation: A 31-year-old man presented with a chief complaint of facial asymmetry. The patient had been diagnosed with HM on the right side, with severe external ear deformity, and hypoplasia of the facial musc

Root resorption in relation to orthodontic tooth movement.

Root resorption is an undesirable sequela of orthodontic tooth movement. The odontoclasts are responsible for root resorption and the process of hyalinization is known to preceed the orthodontic root resorption. It is found that there are several predisposing factors, therefore an evaluation of these factors should be done by careful examination of personal medical history, severity of malocclusion and dental treatment (if any due to previous history of trauma), anterior crossbite etc. The evaluation becomes an essential factor as it helps the orthodontists in detecting the occurance and sever…

The incidence, classification, etiology, and embryology of oral clefts.

There are numerous problems encountered among individuals with a cleft lip and/or cleft palate. Addressing these problems necessitates a multidisciplinary approach, requiring a team of experts to facilitate care for these individuals. Dentists play a vital role on the team. An orthodontist, pediatric dentist, oral maxillofacial surgeon, and prosthodontist usually represent the dental members of the team. The success of this team depends on expertise within each discipline but also depends on each member having a broad base of knowledge in general about oral clefts. An understanding of other di
