Podiatric assessment in children and adults with epidermolysis bullosa: are foot and ankle patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) able to measure the severity of podiatric involvement among EB patients?

Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) represents a group of rare genetic skin fragility disorders characterized by (muco) cutaneous blistering upon minimal mechanical trauma. Ninety percent of EB patients experience podiatric symptoms which may affect physical functioning and emotional well-being. To date, an EB-specific podiatric assessment has not been outlined to guide clinicians in the assessment of EB podiatric involvement. This review describes the podiatric involvement of patients with EB and assesses the relevance of validated foot and ankle patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in measuring

An e-Delphi approach to develop a patient-reported outcome measure to assess functional/dissociative seizures severity.

OBJECTIVES: Functional / dissociative seizures (FDS) are a debilitating condition for which there are no validated, reliable, or co-produced condition-specific severity measures. Such a measure would be of value for clinical and research applications. Here, we conduct a three-round electronic-Delphi survey with the aim of achieving consensus on questions that could be used to assess FDS severity as part of a patient reported outcome measure. METHODS: e-Delphi members consisted of individuals living with FND, professional experts in the condition (e.g., healthcare providers, researchers), and

Strengthening Value Assessment and Health Economics and Outcomes Research Proposals Through Patient Engagement: Guidelines for Researchers.

Patient engagement in value assessment and health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) must be meaningful and authentic, not simply patient participation as study subjects. This article provides researchers with guidelines for incorporating patient engagement in value assessment and HEOR grant proposals. In the USA, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) offers six "foundational expectations" for partnerships in research: representative involvement, early and ongoing engagement, building capacity to work as a team, dedicated funds for engagement and partner compensation, me

The Development and Initial Psychometric Testing of a Patient-Reported Outcome Measure to Assess COPD-Related Emotional Distress.

PURPOSE: Emotional distress is prevalent in patients with COPD and highly relevant to patients. Research in chronic disease indicates that illness-related emotional distress might be specific and sensitive enough to explain self-management behaviour. However, as no currently available instrument assesses COPD-related emotional distress (CRED), it has only been assessed regarding overall distress, using mainly anxiety and depression as outcomes. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and test a preliminary item list to measure CRED. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Following Food and Drug Administration

Blinded gait assessment in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus: reliability and correlation with clinical and patient-reported outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) predominantly manifests with gait disturbances, yet clinical assessments are vulnerable to confirmation bias, particularly post-shunt surgery. Blinded video evaluations are a method to enhance objectivity in gait assessment, but their reliability has never been systematically investigated. The aim was to evaluate the inter-rater reliability of blinded gait assessments in iNPH patients and to investigate how these assessments correlate with the Hellström iNPH scale and patient-reported health status following shunt surgery. METHODS: T
