Cardiac rupture with intact pericardium is a dangerous lesion due to high and rapid mortality. Its most common etiologies are blunt chest trauma and myocardial infarction. In forensic practice, this type of rupture can involve a complex relationship between trauma and cardiac disease, so clarifying the main cause of rupture is critical. Limited tissue is available to cover the bronchial stump after right extrapleural pneumonectomy for malignant pleural mesothelioma. After completing the resection, the pericardial reflection can be freed from the superior vena cava, the right pulmonary artery and veins, and the posterior wall of the pericardial sac between the transverse and oblique pericardial sinuses. The length and mobility from the posterior pericardium can then provide excellent coverage for the right bronchial stump. This technique has the advantage of being easy to perform and requiring limited time and dissection.

We report a surgically treated case of tricuspid valve endocarditis. A 33-year-old man was diagnosed with ventricular septal defect (VSD) and active infective endocarditis associated with severe tricuspid regurgitation. From Sept. 1989 to Jan. 1994, processed fresh bovine pericardium was used for the repairment of stricture of extrahepatic bile duct in 6 cases (7 times). All patients have been followed up for 8 approximately 52 months (average 24 months). One case reoperated on for recurrent jaundice on 26th month postoperation. All cases are alive and in good health, without any clinical symptom.

The autopsy of a fetus at 23 weeks gestational age revealed a partial pericardial defect with subsequent herniation of parts of the left ventricle. The myocard was impinged by the fibrous rim of the residual pericardium. Microscopic examination showed signs of recurrent myocardial infarctions with necrosis, calcification, fibrosis and prominent deposition of iron.Partial pericardial defects result from incomplete fusion of the pleuropericardial membrane and may lead to myocardial infarction via compression of the coronary arteries.
