Specific treatments for mycosis fungoides, including electron beam irradiation, topical mechlorethamine, and psoralen plus ultraviolet A (PUVA) may be associated with the development of skin cancers after a variable latency period. Because these treatments are often not curative, topical therapies for mycosis fungoides, administered sequentially or concomitantly, are being used increasingly in order to control recurrent disease. This report documents the development of multiple cutaneous tumors, including squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, actinic keratoses, keratoacanthomas, and o

This study compared the efficacy of topical lidocaine patches versus vehicle (placebo) patches applied directly to the painful skin of subjects with postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) utilizing an 'enriched enrollment' study design. All subjects had been successfully treated with topical lidocaine patches on a regular basis for at least 1 month prior to study enrollment. Subjects were enrolled in a randomized, two-treatment period, vehicle-controlled, cross-over study. The primary efficacy variable was 'time to exit'; subjects were allowed to exit either treatment period if their pain relief score d

BACKGROUND: Treatment of anogenital warts (AW) in children and infants is painful because of the destructive techniques involved, as a result of which general anaesthesia may be required. For adults, topical imiquimod is an efficient and well-tolerated product used for these lesions. Here, we report a case demonstrating the benefits of topical imiquimod in the treatment of AW in infant.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A ten-month-old infant was presenting large AW in the inguinal and perianal folds for a period of two months, which persisted despite one month of treatment with podophyllotoxin. After a

A model of topically induced ocular anaphylaxis in guinea pigs was developed. A guinea pig anti-dinitrophenyl (DNP) bovine gamma-globulin antiserum rich in IgG1 antibodies was injected subconjunctivally; various serum dilutions and latent periods were tested. The anaphylactic response was elicited with di-DNP-lysine applied topically. The response was characterized by rating 11 ocular signs. Although the 4-hour latent period is considered optimal for passive cutaneous anaphylaxis, a 14-hour latent period yielded the strongest ocular reaction and appeared to the most appropriate time for clinic
