Cisplatin is a platinum-containing drug that inhibits DNA synthesis by inhibiting cross-linking, denaturing DNA strands. It is used in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents to treat several types of cancers. Numerous adverse effects have been reported with this compound. However, it is considered a safe medication in terms of cardiotoxicity. The trypanocidal properties of cis-Pt pentamidine iodide have been studied on the T. b. brucei sheep model. The compound was evaluated on the lymphatic-plasma phase of the disease and appeared to be active on the circulating parasites. BACKGROUND: Standard platinum-based therapy for ovarian cancer is inefficient against ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC). OCCC is a distinct subtype of epithelial ovarian cancer. OCCC constitutes 25% of ovarian cancers in East Asia (Japan, Korea, China, Singapore) and 6-10% in Europe and North America. The cancer is characterized by frequent inactivation of ARID1A and 10% of cases of endometriosis progression to OCCC. Oxaliplatin is a platinum compound commonly used in the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer. This report describes two patients who had received repetitive combination chemotherapy including oxaliplatin for the treatment of metastatic colon cancer and who visited the emergency department with acute kidney injury several days after experiencing a hypersensitivity reaction to oxaliplatin. There is no established chemotherapy regimen in metastatic primary urethral cancer (mPUC). The efficacy of a cisplatin (CDDP)-based regimen has been reported, however, when the syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone (SIADH) occurs, the chemotherapy regimen should be changed to another platinum compound. In this report, we describe a 66-year-old woman who was diagnosed as mPUC with, CDDP-induced SIADH. After switching her to CBDCA and careful managing her sodium balance, three courses of the chemotherapy regimen were completed.

In this paper, we report the synthesis and application of enzyme-like DNA-copper oxide/platinum nanoparticles for the separate quantification of inorganic and organomercury species in various real samples. We synthesized a series of poly(thymine) (T60)-copper oxide/metal nanocomposites (T60-CuxO/M NCs; M = Au, Ag or Pt) that exhibited enzyme-like activities [oxidase (OX), peroxidase (POX), and catalase (CAT)]. A novel porous fluorine doped tin oxide (PFTO) conductive framework was introduced to counter electrodes (CEs) for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). When modified by platinum (Pt) or carbon (C), the PFTO conductive framework displays high catalytic activity to I(-)/I3(-) redox couples. Power conversion efficiencies of 6.09% and 5.81% were obtained in the DSSCs based on Pt and C modified PFTO CEs respectively, which were close to that of DSSCs with Pt coated FTO glass (6.05%) and Pt sheet (6.26%) CEs.
