BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Paraoxonase (PON) proteins have various hydrolytic activities. The PON family is able to detoxify oxidized low-density lipoprotein. Additionally, differentiation of monocytes into macrophages, as the first stage in the development of atherosclerosis, is suppressed by PON 1. The effects of polyphenols including curcumin on PON1 have been investigated in studies. In this study, our main goal is to investigate curcumin's effect on PON1 protein levels, gene expression, and enzyme activity in animal interventional studies.

OBJECTIVE: Free radical-mediated oxidative stress has been implicated in the etiopathogenesis of Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), which is the most common thyroid disorder in adolescents. HT requires lifelong thyroid surveillance, particularly in women of childbearing age to avoid adverse effects on reproductive function. The aims of this study were to investigate serum concentrations of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), a marker of ovarian reserve, in euthyroid adolescent girls with newly diagnosed HT and explore the relationships between AMH levels and biomarkers of antioxidant status.

We investigated the clinical usefulness of N-isopropyl-p-[123I]iodoamphetamine single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) for diagnosis of spinocerebellar degeneration. In this study, we used manual delineation of high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to determine the spatial and temporal characteristics of the cerebellar atrophy in spinocerebellar ataxia type 2 (SCA2).
