OBJECTIVE: To assess the reliability of intramucosal pH (pHi) of the sigmoid colon, IL-6 concentration and the APACHE II score in predicting outcome in patients undergoing elective abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.
DESIGN: Prospective study.
METHODS: In 42 patients, measurements were made of the sigmoid pHi with the silicone tonometer and plasma IL-6 by enzyme linked immuno-sorbent assay (ELISA). In this prospective study the authors analysed the prognostic value of monitoring patency of the feedings vessels of the fibular graft, implanted into the femoral head to treat aseptic necrosis. The natural history of contraction abnormalities and their response after acute myocardial infarction in man were studied using radionuclide angiography. Sixteen patients were studied before and after sublingual nitroglycerin within 24 hours, 5-7 days and 4-6 weeks after the onset of chest pain. Within 24 hours, central chord shortening in the zone of infarction was reduced to 13.1 +/- 9.8%, but improved 27.2 +/- 18.4% (p less than 0.001) after nitroglycerin. Meckel's diverticulum is the most common congenital abnormality of the gastrointestinal tract. It is a true diverticulum containing all layers of the intestinal wall and identified as a saccular, blind-ending structure located on the antimesenteric border of the distal ileum. Most patients remain asymptomatic during their lifetime. Symptomatic cases are nonspecific and can present as small-bowel obstruction, diverticulitis, perforation, gastrointestinal bleeding, and rarely, a neoplasm. Therefore, the radiological diagnosis is of paramount important for proper patient management.

Liver angioscintigraphy (LAS) is a radio-isotope method for the investigation of liver perfusion and its alteration in various hepatic diseases. It measures the arterial and portal venous fractions of total liver blood flow. The percentage of liver blood flow supplied by hepatic artery is estimated mathematically by the hepatic perfusion index (HPI), normally between 25 % and 40 %.
