Procedural Errors Associated With the Use of Rotary and Reciprocating Endodontic Instruments in Undergraduate Settings: A Scoping Review.

INTRODUCTION: Root canal treatment (RCT) performed by undergraduate dental students is associated with procedural errors that may compromise outcomes. With the increasing use of rotary nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) instrumentation, understanding these errors has become important; however, existing evidence remains fragmented. This scoping review aimed to map the available evidence and summarize the reported prevalence of procedural errors associated with RCT using rotary and reciprocating instrumentation in undergraduate dental education. METHODS: This scoping review followed the Arksey and O'Malle

A scanning electron microscopic study of external root resorption in replanted dog teeth.

Root resorption after replantation of mature permanent dog incisors was examined by scanning electron microscopy. Three groups consisting of three extracted teeth each were kept in a saline solution for 5, 30, and 120 min before replantation. The first group was replanted with the pulp intact. The second and third groups were replanted after root canal filling by Calciobiotic Root Canal Sealer. After 90 days, the teeth were extracted and the apical root surfaces were examined. Severe inflammatory root resorption was observed in the first (intact pulp) group. For the root canal filled teeth, th

Management of a bulbous blunderbuss maxillary central incisor with one root and three canals in a patient with cleft lip and palate.

Unique anatomical deviations in canal structure are rare in anterior teeth, especially central incisors, and thus risk being overlooked. For successful intervention, a meticulous diagnostic procedure and treatment plan, significantly aided by cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), are crucial. The case at hand explores the management of a maxillary left central incisor in a cleft palate patient, characterized by multiple developmental lobes, a bulbous crown, and an atypical root anatomy. The primary symptom was pain, accompanied by a history of trauma at age 8 years and ensuing tooth discolorat

Leakage of four root canal sealers at different thickness.

Sealers play a key role in sealing the root canal system. Fluid transport under a headspace pressure of 50 kPa (0.5 atm) through four sealers, AH26, Ketac-Endo, Sealapex and Tubli-Seal at a thickness of 0.05, 0.25 or 3 mm, was determined using 240 standard bovine root sections which were obturated with either sealer only or sealer combined with standard gutta-percha cylinders. AH26 and Sealapex sealed more tightly than Ketac-Endo or Tubli-Seal when used without gutta-percha; AH26, Ketac-Endo, and Sealapex sealed more tightly than Tubli-Seal when the sealer layer was 0.25 mm thick, while Ketac-

Sarcoidosis with mandibular involvement. Report of a case.

A case of mandibular involvement in sarcoidosis is presented. The diagnosis was based on positive chest roentgenograms, involvement of superficial and mediastinal lymph nodes of epithelioid tubercles, negative tuberculin test, and negative results of an examination with respect to tubercle bacilli. Mandibular involvement was diagnosed tentatively roentgenographically and verified by histopathologic examination. The mandibular lesion was treated surgically, and the defect healed uneventfully after less than 1 year. Almost complete normalization of the pulmonary lesions had taken place after 2 y

Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy effects mediated by methylene blue in surfactant medium as an adjuvant treatment of teeth with apical periodontitis and presence of fistula-Protocol for randomized, controlled, double-blind clinical trial.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of photodynamic therapy as an adjunct to conventional endodontic treatment in patients with apical periodontitis and fistulas. In this study, a fistula is characterized as a pathological conduit originating from the infected region at the root apex of the tooth, traversing the oral mucosa, and extending to the external surface of the gingiva. This pathological condition frequently complicates the management of endodontic infections, thereby necessitating the evaluation of supplementary therapeutic interventions. The standard treatment for end

Endodontic management of a mandibular second premolar with perforating internal resorption by using MTA and cone beam computed tomography as a diagnostic aid.

This case report demonstrates the benefits of utilizing Cone Beam Computed tomography (CBCT) in the assessment and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) in the management of perforating internal resorption in a 54-year-old woman. The advent of CBCT has enhanced the clinician's ability to make a confirmatory diagnosis and determining the treatment plan before undertaking the actual treatment. Thorough cleaning and shaping of the root canal space and the resorptive defect was achieved by mechanical instrumentation, irrigation, and interim calcium hydroxide dressing. Following this obturation of the c
