Rosacea management: A comprehensive review.

Rosacea is a chronic cutaneous disorder affecting primarily the face, characterized by erythema, transient or persistent, telangiectasia, and inflammatory lesions including papulo-pustules and swelling. The essential component of the disease is the persistent erythema of facial skin. Episodes of flushing (acute-subacute intermittent vasodilation) are common. Swelling and erythema of the nose along with dilatation of the pilosebaceous poral orifices, known as rhinophyma, can be noted in chronic cases. Rosacea affects up to 10% of the world population and is especially noted in fair-skinned indi…

Indeterminate Cell Histiocytosis Mimicking Rosacea.

Indeterminate cell histiocytosis (ICH) is a rare proliferative disorder of histiocytes, which display morphologic and immunophenotypic characteristics of both Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) and non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis (NLCH). We describe an unusual clinical presentation of ICH mimicking rosacea and provide a relevant review of the literature.

Treatment of rosacea during pregnancy.

BACKGROUND: Exacerbation of rosacea may occur during pregnancy and there are multiple associated cases of rosacea fulminans (RF). Treatment during pregnancy poses a significant challenge as many rosacea treatments are contraindicated or have limited evidence regarding potential adverse fetal effects. OBJECTIVE: Review the pregnancy categories of various treatments and develop algorithms for treating pregnant patients with rosacea and RF. METHODS: Rosacea treatments showing efficacy in randomized controlled trials were searched through DailyMed to review pregnancy labelling. Searching the Pub…

Relationship between rosacea and sleep.

Rosacea is a chronic facial skin disease involved in neurovascular dysregulation and neurogenic inflammation. Behavioral factors such as stress, anxiety, depression and sleep were identified to be associated with other inflammatory skin diseases. Few studies have reported sleep status in rosacea. Aiming to investigate the relationship between rosacea and sleep, a case-control survey was conducted, enrolling 608 rosacea patients and 608 sex- and age-matched healthy controls. Sleep quality was assessed through the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. Diagnosis and severity gradin…

Childhood rosacea and related disorders.

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the skin and the eyes. The pathogenesis of rosacea is complex and includes the interaction between genetic and environmental factors, dysregulation of the innate immune system, neurovascular modifications and the interaction with skin commensals. Clinical manifestations in children include the telangiectatic form, papulopustular rosacea, ocular rosacea, periorificial dermatitis, granulomatous rosacea and idiopathic facial aseptic granuloma. Management is aimed at identifying and avoiding triggers. Topical therapy is used for mild cases w…

Rosacea associated with dupilumab therapy.

Background: Dupilumab is used for treatment of atopic dermatitis through blockade of IL-4 and IL-13 signaling of the Th2 pathway. Recent case reports have described alopecia, psoriasis, persistent facial dermatitis, and recall dermatitis at patch test sites after the initiation of dupilumab therapy.Case report: We describe the case of a 67-year-old female with atopic dermatitis who developed recurrent episodic flares of rosacea temporally associated with dupilumab injections that resolved after dupilumab discontinuation. Conclusion: The cause of rosacea-like reaction associated with dupilumab t…

Granulomatous rosacea: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Granulomatous rosacea is a rare chronic inflammatory skin disease with an unknown origin. The role of Demodex follicularum in its pathogenesis is currently proved. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 54-year-old Moroccan man with a 3-month history of erythematous, nonpruritic papules on the lateral side around the eyes. Dermoscopy and histology confirmed the diagnosis of granulomatous rosacea. CONCLUSIONS: We describe another clinical presentation of granulomatous rosacea with a clinical-dermoscopic-pathological correlation.

Severe Rosacea: A Case Report.

PURPOSE: To describe a case of severe rosacea with ocular involvement. CASE REPORT: A 28-year-old female patient presented with extensive facial and ocular eruptions. She had a history of treatment with oral prednisolone due to the clinical diagnosis of lupus erythematosus (LE), which had resulted in transient improvement of the lesions, but was followed by exacerbation of the lesions. With the clinical diagnosis of severe oculofacial rosacea, she was successfully treated with oral doxycycline, steroid eye drops, and ocular lubricants. Histopathological features of skin biopsy were consistent…

Rosacea: Epidemiology, pathogenesis, and treatment.

Rosacea is a chronic relapsing inflammatory skin disease with a high prevalence among adults of Northern European heritage with fair skin. Symptoms present in various combinations and severity, often fluctuating between periods of exacerbation and remission. Based on morphological characteristics, rosacea is generally classified into four major subtypes: erythematotelangiectatic, papulopustular, phymatous, and ocular. Diverse environmental and endogenous factors have been shown to stimulate an augmented innate immune response and neurovascular dysregulation; however, rosacea's exact pathogenes…

Patient Costs Associated with Rosacea.

The recalcitrance of rosacea to many treatment options may prompt patients to spend exorbitant amounts of money on unsubstantiated treatment regimens in an effort to achieve relief. The authors examine the relationship between disease severity and treatment cost across several demographic and socioeconomic strata. Familiarization of evidence-based clinical recommendations and consensus guidelines may equip physicians to educate patients about the most efficacious and cost-effective treatment options to assist patients in making cost-conscious decisions in the management of their rosacea.

Erlotinib-induced Rosacea-like Dermatitis.

Skin and skin adnexa toxicities are the most common side effects associated with epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors … nly described as "acneiform", although these adverse reactions have clinical presentations, such as rosacea-like and seborrheic-like dermatitis. In this context, we report a case of a 77-year-old man with a medical history of planocellular lung cancer with ipsilateral pulmonary metastasis and mediastinum infiltration who received erlotinib as a third-line …

Therapeutical Management for Ocular Rosacea.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to describe a case of ocular rosacea with a very complex evolution. Rosacea is a chronic dermatological disease that may affect the ocular structures up to 6-72% of all cases. This form is often misdiagnosed, which may lead to long inflammatory processes with important visual consequences for affected patients. Therefore, an early diagnosis and an adequate treatment are important. METHODS: We report the case of a 43-year-old patient who had several relapses of what seemed an episode of acute bacterial conjunctivitis. Two weeks later, he developed a cornea…

Pyridoxine induced rosacea-like dermatitis.

Rosacea is a common chronic inflammatory cutaneous disease of unknown etiology, characterized by remissions and exacerbations, presenting with centrofacial erythema and telangiectasias. It affects mainly adults around the age of 30 years and classically predominates in females. The pathophysiology of rosacea has not yet been fully understood. Risk factors are positive family history, very light skin phototype, sun exposure and consumption of spicy food or alcohol. Recently, there has been some evidence that some drugs or vitamins could be potential factors that can aggravate rosacea or induce …
