Background: Epidemiological alerts about the possible spread of different pathogens have highlighted the risk of international travelers contracting infectious diseases when visiting endemic areas. The role of travelers in disease transmission underscores the importance of pre-travel consultations, which provide critical information on health risks, vaccinations, and preventive measures. Understanding travelers' risk perceptions and behaviors is essential for enhancing global health security in the post-pandemic era. Methods: A cross-sectional study (June 2023-January 2024) was conducted by ad

INTRODUCTION: In 2020, 13.8 million people in the United States struggled with food security. This means they were uncertain whether their food needs would be met. Where someone lives can influence struggles with food security. Food deserts are census tracts that experience high rates of poverty (20 percent of residents at/below poverty thresholds) and low access to grocery stores with nutritious foods. Food deserts and insecurity disproportionately affect disadvantaged communities and may contribute to health issues like diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity. Public policies can be utili

This prospective study identifies physical, behavioral, and psychosocial correlates of subsequent employment status in a sample of low back pain patients. The sample of 150 subjects was drawn from 2 populations of persons with chronic low back pain: 87 individuals who were receiving care at a university low back pain clinic, and 63 individuals who had applied for (but not yet received) Social Security compensation on the basis of low back pain. All subjects had worked at least 3 months prior to their latest unemployment period and were currently out of work. Initial assessment included a medic

Individual Placement and Support (IPS) is an evidence-based model of supported employment for people with serious mental illness. We assessed the effects and relative contributions of predictors of employment among IPS recipients using measures of baseline client characteristics, local economic context, and IPS fidelity. A recent work history, less time on the Social Security rolls, greater cognitive functioning, and a lower local unemployment rate were associated with greater probability of employment. The ability of the model to discriminate between outcomes was limited, and substantial impr

Organisational resilience depends on knowledge-driven standards and practices that enable risk owners to identify, evaluate, manage and react to complex, dynamic and interconnected threats. It is knowledge that determines the level of sophistication and effectiveness of an organisation's resilience strategy. This knowledge rests with those whose role is focused on security, who support security as an ancillary function, or who lead in specific technical risk areas. The establishment of consistent, credible, accredited and recognised knowledge production allows individuals and their employers t

Within a larger intervention study, attachment was assessed with the Strange Situation Procedure for 30 infants who co-resided with their mothers in a prison nursery. Sixty percent of infants were classified secure, 75% who co-resided a year or more and 43% who co-resided less than a year, all within the range of normative community samples. The year-long co-residing group had significantly more secure and fewer disorganized infants than predicted by their mothers' attachment status, measured by the Adult Attachment Interview, and a significantly greater proportion of secure infants than meta-

Sharing emotions is a fundamental aspect of human interactions. Shared pleasure refers to moments where caregiver and infant engage in mutual smiling while making eye contact. This study examined shared pleasure in early mother-infant interactions as a predictor of infant attachment security. Associations between shared pleasure and maternal depressive symptoms were also investigated. The sample included 67 mother-infant dyads, of whom 22 mothers were diagnosed with postpartum depression. Shared pleasure was assessed through micro-coding of 3-min mother-infant interactions recorded in the labo

This person-oriented study aimed to identify adolescents' hierarchical attachment profiles with parents and peers, and to analyze associations between the profiles and adolescent psychosocial adjustment. Participants were 449 Finnish 17-19-year-olds reporting their attachments to mother, father, best friend, and romantic partner and details on mental health (internalizing symptoms, inattention/hyperactivity, and anger control problems) and risk-taking behavior (substance use and sexual risk-taking). Natural rubber latex has been in widespread use for over a century. Reports of immediate hypersensitivity to latex have increased dramatically since the first case was reported in 1979, specially in persons with cumulative latex exposure. A 13 year old male was referred to our office. He had been wearing orthodontic rubber bands for two years. The previous year he started having itchy, red and watery eyes, with sneezing and runny nose when he was exposed to rubber products. Then he developed oral edema and lip ulcers. Finally, he experienced cough, wheezing, chest tightness and dyspnea. The pa

In previous work, I have described the history and ethics of human experiments for national security purposes during he cold war and developed the bioethical issues that will be apparent in the "war on terror". This paper is an attempt to bring these two previous lines of work together under the rubric of the "national security state," a concept familiar to Cold War historians and political scientists. The founding of the national security state was associated with the first articulations of informed consent requirements by national security agencies. My analysis indicates that strengthened co

This article examines the importance of patient-centered research in radiology with an emphasis on incorporating the patient perspective to improve patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and research relevance. The methods for effective patient engagement include creating patient advisory councils, developing PRO measures, and incorporating patients as active members of research teams. To solve logistic challenges and technical difficulties, communication tools such as visual aids, simplified language, and digital applications are discussed. Key barriers to patient engagement and potential solutions

Accidents on the public highway by lack of respect of the fundamental rules of road security, particularly abroad, traffic conditions in bad repair in numerous emergent countries, usually the destination of mass tourism and underdeveloped organization of health care and local urgency help. Sports activities are also a source of accidents. A good physical training is essential. Drowning is a real plague, especially among children due to a lack of vigilance. This study examined the outcome of a cohort of 72 patients from a high secure psychiatric hospital (HSPH) who were admitted to and discharged from the Edenfield Centre over a 16-year period. The sample was predominately male and mentally ill and the majority was subject to restriction orders. Compared with two similar studies focusing specifically on the outcomes of HSPH patients in medium security, our sample had fewer women and the group had more extensive criminal and psychiatric histories. None of our cohort was discharged to the community via district services or transferred to other hosp

Although elderly inmates form a small minority in the U.S. prison population (6.6%), this number is expected to increase by 2005. Elderly prisoners consist of first-time offenders, habitual offenders, and those who have "aged in place" (received very long sentences at a young age). Violence is an identified stressor affecting the elderly prisoner. This enduring stressor can add to physical deterioration, particularly in the inmate with chronic illness. Violence in prison falls into three categories: prisoner-prisoner, staff-prisoner, or prisoner-staff (Clear & Cole, 1994). Prisoner-prisoner in

This paper seeks to determine which workers affected by lockdown measures can return to work when a government decides to apply lockdown exit strategies. This system, which we call Sequential Selective Multidimensional Decision (SSMD), involves deciding sequentially, by geographical areas, sectors of activity, age groups and immunity, which workers can return to work at a given time according to the epidemiological criteria of the country as well as that of a group of reference countries, used as a benchmark, that have suffered a lower level of lockdown de-escalation strategies. We apply SSMD

Small ruminant production is one of the main sources of meat in Algeria and plays a vital role in the country's food security. Algeria's small ruminant industry has the potential to improve the living standards of farmers and households, as well as to increase animal protein availability to the public, and as a consequence to alleviate poverty and improve health. This review describes the main infectious diseases that have an impact on small ruminant production in Algeria. It also discusses the adopted control measures for these diseases. The epidemiological status of small ruminant diseases i

In healthcare systems, more and more cloud data migration is being done, but this also changes the times when data transfer is probably the biggest risk in terms of security. This paper describes a reproducible protocol for explainable artificial intelligence (XAI)-based secure cloud data migration using a synthetic healthcare dataset and a controlled cloud environment. The developed framework merges zero-trust architecture, temporal least privilege, encrypted communication, centralized monitoring, and explainable anomaly detection to have a more secure, transparent, and auditable migration.
