OBJECTIVE: Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) is a rare autoimmune bullous disease caused by various autoantibodies. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic value of MMP-specific autoantibodies in patient sera.
STUDY DESIGN: We analyzed sera from 30 MMP-suspected patients with intractable oral mucosal lesions using a combination of indirect immunofluorescence with 1M NaCl-split skin, immunoblot analysis, and ELISAs. We also analyzed clinical features among different types of MMP.

A microplate agglutination test (MAT) was compared with the tube agglutinin test (TAT), a standard test for the diagnosis of Brucella canis, in terms of the sensitivity and specificity. The authors reviewed over 50 publications in which the sensitivity and specificity values of assays used for the detection of exposure to Brucella abortus had been examined. AIMS: To investigate the serological cross reaction between legionella and campylobacter using the rapid microagglutination test (RMAT).
METHODS: Serum samples from 49 patients with campylobacter infection were tested for legionella antibodies using the indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT) and the RMAT. Biopsy specimens and serum samples from 140 patients with duodenal or gastric ulcer disease were examined. The presence of Helicobacter pylori was detected in 105 out of 140 subjects. Three testing techniques used in this study led to different results. Thus, the enzyme-linked immunosorbent essay enabled detection of elevated IgG antibodies to H. pylori in 108 serum samples.
