The depth of myometrial invasion (DMI) is one of the most important prognostic indicators and determinants of therapy in endometrial cancer. There are well-documented problems in recognizing DMI. We examined 100 previously diagnosed endometrioid endometrial carcinomas in hysterectomy specimens, reassessed DMI, and explored morphological features that complicated appraisal of myometrial invasion. Uterine leiomyoma and leiomyosarcoma are located at the ends of the spectrum of smooth muscle lesions. Leiomyosarcoma belongs to the complex genomic sarcomas characterized by complex karyotypes. Gastrointestinal leiomyomas are smooth muscle tumors arising from the muscularis mucosae, muscularis propriae and possibly from smooth muscle of the vessel wall. Management depends on the size, location and the clinical scenario. Endoscopic snare cauterization with or without saline lift has been described in literature for tumors involving the left colon. To the best of our knowledge, endoscopic resection of right colon leiomyoma was never attempted in the past. We present a case of cecal leiomyoma which was resected endoscopically.

We present a case of a leiomyoma of the vulva with karyotype 46,XX,inv(12)(p12q13-14). It is noteworthy that the breakpoint at 12q13 approximately q14 is flanked by the HMGA2 gene. Although the gene remained intact, the presence of HMGA2 protein in the neoplastic cells indicates that it became activated by the rearrangement. It is curious that activation of the HMGA2 gene, while not restricted to smooth muscle tumors, was so far found only in genital leiomyomata (uterus, vulva, vagina) and not in any smooth muscle tumors arising in extragenital locations.

Pulmonary benign metastasizing leiomyoma (PBML) is a rare entity usually occurring in females with history of uterine leiomyoma, and it is preferential to metastasize to the lung and appears as a histopathologic benign tumor of smooth muscle origin. We report one case of Solitary infantile Myofibromatosis of Bone in a 14-year old girl. Radiologic features of the tibial lesion were consistent with the diagnosis of a benign bone tumor. The final diagnosis was made on a total resection of the tumor. Histologically, the tumor consisted of nodules, hyalinized or cellular, with spindle-shaped cells resembling fibroblasts or smooth-muscle cells. There were numerous vascular spaces in close contact with these nodules. The tumor cells were immunoreactive with anti-alpha-smooth muscle actin antibodies. Angiomyolipoma is a benign tumor composed of varying proportions of smooth muscle cells, blood vessels, and adipose tissue that most commonly occurs in the kidney. Sporadic lesions and lesions arising in the setting of the tuberous sclerosis complex have been reported in extrarenal sites. We present the case of an incidentally discovered angiomyolipoma in the anterior mediastinum. Thymoma was suspected clinically, and the lesion was composed mainly of spindled-to-epithelioid cells arranged in a histologic pattern reminiscent of hemangiopericytoma, a pattern that has been described in thymoma.

We report herein a case of a 65-year-old woman who had a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) of the stomach. Preoperative endoscopic and X-ray examinations showed a spherical submucosal tumor in the gastric fornix. Soft tissue sarcomas with smooth muscle differentiation are termed leiomyosarcoma. Leiomyosarcoma is an aggressive tumor commonly originating from smooth muscle cells of uterus or retro peritoneal areas. Distant metastasis occurs by hematogenous route to liver and lung. Eyelid metastasis without involvement of other ocular structures is extremely rare. A case of eyelid metastasis which on extensive investigations was proved to be from upper gastrointestinal tract leiomyosarcoma is reported here.

Smooth muscle tumors are uncommon lesions of the vulva and represent a variety of histologic types. When encountered, surgical treatment is guided by the malignant potential of the tumors. This article presents the case of a 45-year-old woman who underwent conservative excision of a 10-cm vulvar lesion consistent with benign epithelioid leiomyoma. This unusual case provides an opportunity to review the clinical and pathologic features of this uncommon variant of leiomyoma and to describe the recently suggested pathologic criteria for determining the malignant potential of smooth muscle tumors
