Mobile App for Gynecologic Cancer Support for Patients With Gynecologic Cancer Receiving Chemotherapy in China: Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Patients with gynecologic cancer receiving chemotherapy often report unmet supportive care needs. Compared with traditional face-to-face clinical interventions, mobile health can increase access to supportive care and may address patients' needs. Although app-based support programs have been developed to support patients with gynecologic cancer, their efficacy has not been adequately tested. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine the efficacy of a mobile app for gynecologic cancer support (MGCS) for patients with gynecologic cancer receiving chemotherapy in China. METHOD

Inclusive design in the implementation of projects for schools modernization in Portugal - case studies.

The Project for Schools Modernization taking place in Portugal, with an estimated total investment of 2450 million for the intervention in the first 205 schools, provide the reclassification of 332 secondary schools by 2015. One of the questions we can pose is if the authorities and the teams of architects selected to design these schools considered fundamental for the correctness of architectural barriers within the school and its accessibility the implementation of standards and principles of inclusion of children/teenagers with special needs within their school environment. As most of the p

Lingual Frenuloplasty for Ankyloglossia in Children: A Case Series.

Tongue is an important oral structure that affects speech, position of teeth, periodontal tissue, nutrition, swallowing, nursing, and certain social activities. Tongue-tie or ankyloglossia is a developmental anomaly of the tongue, characterized by an abnormally short, thick lingual frenulum resulting in limited tongue movement. Diagnosis must include functional assessment of tongue mobility, in addition to the physical appearance of the frenulum. Tongue mobility and appearance associated with the insertion, as well as the attachment and the shortness of the lingual frenulum should be evaluated

Situation Model for Situation-Aware Assistance of Dementia Patients in Outdoor Mobility.

BACKGROUND: Dementia impairs spatial orientation and route planning, thus often affecting the patient's ability to move outdoors and maintain social activities. Situation-aware deliberative assistive technology devices (ATD) can substitute impaired cognitive function in order to maintain one's level of social activity. To build such a system, one needs domain knowledge about the patient's situation and needs. We call this collection of knowledge situation model. OBJECTIVE: To construct a situation model for the outdoor mobility of people with dementia (PwD). The model serves two purposes: 1)

Associations between physical activity patterns and quality of life in persons with type 2 diabetes: A cross sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Type 2 diabetes is a major health problem globally and particularly in Ghana. Regular physical activity is important in the management of type 2 diabetes and in improving quality of life of persons with type 2 diabetes. However, there is a lack of data reporting on how physical activity relate to quality of life in persons with diabetes in Ghana. This study explored how physical activity patterns relate to quality of life in persons with type 2 diabetes from a major tertiary hospital in Ghana. METHODS: One hundred and twenty-one (121) persons with type 2 diabetes (age, 30-60 years

Testing the Webber's Comprehensive Mobility Framework Using Self-Reported and Performance-Based Mobility Outcomes Among Community-Dwelling Older Adults in Nigeria.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: In 2010, Webber and colleagues conceptualized the interrelationships between mobility determinants, and researchers tested Webber's framework using data from developed countries. No studies have tested this model using data from developing nations (e.g., Nigeria). This study aimed to simultaneously explore the cognitive, environmental, financial, personal, physical, psychological, and social influences and their interaction effects on the mobility outcomes among community-dwelling older adults in Nigeria. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study recru

Two cities, two stages in transforming society-a mixed methods study comparing doctors' adoption of mobile apps for communication with patients in Hangzhou and Yancheng, China.

OBJECTIVES: Mobile apps have become commonplace in doctor-patient communication over the last 20 years. Doctors mainly use two kinds of app, social networking apps (i.e., WeChat) and medical platform apps (i.e., Haodf). The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the attributes of social interaction in local society impact doctors' choice of mobile apps to communicate with patients. This article addresses two research questions: (a) To what degree do doctors' adoption patterns in different societies differ? (b) Why do doctors choose certain mobile apps to communicate with patients? M

Life-Space Mobility of Subjects With COPD on Long-Term Oxygen Therapy Delivered by Non-Portable Devices.

BACKGROUND: Mobility is human body movement in all its forms, including bed-to-chair transfer, walking, daily tasks, participating in work and social functions, exercising, and using public transport. The mobility of people living with COPD is affected negatively by the disease symptoms. However, limited data are available on the life-space mobility in people with COPD on long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT). This study aimed to explore the life-space mobility in subjects with COPD on LTOT and verify whether life-space mobility is associated with comorbidities and symptoms, activity in daily life,

Community Participation and Enfranchisement Among Adults With Mobility Impairments.

Adults with paralysis often experience restricted community participation, yet less is known about participation enfranchisement, including perceived control and importance. This study aimed to describe patterns of participation enfranchisement and examine associations with demographic and functional factors among adults with mobility impairments. Thirty adults with paralysis using mobility aids completed the Community Participation Indicators (CPI) at an adaptive fitness center. Social and recreational activities were most frequently performed, whereas employment, volunteering, and civic acti

Prognostic value of patient reported outcomes in advanced gastro-oesophageal cancer: a systematic review.

To summarise the prognostic value of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in advanced gastro-oesophageal (GO) cancer. We systematically searched multiple databases using search terms related to advanced GO cancer, PRO and prognosis. Studies examining the relationship between baseline PROs and prognosis were included. Two reviewers independently screened articles and extracted data on study design, survival and associations between PROs and survival, in both univariable and multivariable analyses. QUIPS was used for quality assessment. From 3004 studies screened, seven studies were eligible, compri

Inter-relationship between visual symptoms, activity limitation and psychological functioning in patients with diabetic retinopathy.

AIMS: We explored the direct and indirect impact of restrictions in daily living activities on the relationship between perceived visual symptoms associated with diabetic retinopathy (DR) and psychological functioning. METHODS: In this prospective, cross-sectional study, 514 tertiary patients with DR (mean age±SD, 60.4±12.6 years; 64% male) answered questions related to nine domains of DR-specific quality of life. These were classified into the following predictor, mediating and outcome variables: visual symptoms (predictor variable); activity limitation, driving, lighting, social restriction

How children with restricted mobility perceive the accessibility and usability of their home environment.

The purpose of this study was to describe how children with restricted mobility perceive accessibility and usability of their home environment. The investigation was carried through a descriptive questionnaire, mailed to children in northern Sweden with the diagnoses of cerebral palsy, spina bifida and muscular diseases. Eighty-two children completed the questionnaire. The results showed that the children perceived the accessibility of the physical environment in their homes as relatively good while outside the home the environment was less accessible.
