A novel intramolecular donor-acceptor compound has been synthesized and characterized. This compound was a symmetrical A-pi-D-pi-A type molecule containing two benzimidazole rings as two electron acceptors (A) and an N-ethylcarbazole group as electron donors (D). Hydrolysis of 2,4-dithiophenobarbital in aqueous solutions of pH 2-12 was investigated at 40 and 60 degrees C using UV spectrophotometry. The values of reaction order, rate constants, pKa1 and pKa2 and activation energy were determined. The preliminary estimation of degradation products was accomplished using thin layer chromatography. The major products were isolated by circular chromatography and identified by spectroscopic and classical methods.

We report a pump-probe femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopic study on the electron transfer reaction of CCl(4) in liquid ethanol. By direct observations of the presolvated electron and of the reaction transition state CCl(4) (*-), this study provides direct evidence of the resonant dissociative electron transfer (RDET) of the presolvated electron to CCl(4). Moreover, the lifetime of CCl(4) (*-) in ethanol is directly obtained from the decay kinetics and its measured value is found to be nearly identical to its gas-phase value. A new Ru(II) complex is described which serves as a luminescence lifetime-based sensor for fluoride and cyanide anions (KF = 640 000 mol-1, KCN = 430 000 mol-1). Haloperidol and phenothiazines are present in psychiatrical treatments. An analysis in body fluids is tedious because of the presence of demethylated (DM) derivatives of phenothiazines. The behavior of some interfering solutes on alkyl bonded phases has been studied. Two simple, rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric methods have been proposed for the determination of vanadium(V) using butaperazine dimaleate (BPD) and propionyl promazine phosphate (PPP). We have analyzed the effect of chlorpromazine (CPZ) on pure actin. We have found that CPZ quenches Trp-79 and Trp-86 fluorescence and, in agreement with an earlier report on conventional actin, inhibits actin polymerization, lowering the extent of polymerization. Paracetamol (P), caffeine (C) and ephedrine hydrochloride (EH) are there physiological active component in Likeshu capsules. We have proposed the determination method of these three components using extractive separation-spectrophotometry. Only one amount weighed of sample is required to determine them. The recoveries of P, C and EH were 97.51 +/- 0.64% (n = 9), 98.24 +/- 1.04% (n = 8) and 98.58 +/- 1.09% (n = 9) respectively. Studies of speed, resolution, and sensitivity indicate packed column supercritical fluid chromatography is a viable technique for the analysis of antipsychotic drugs. Two HPLC systems have been developed for the investigation of flumecinol (3-trifluoromethyl-alpha-ethyl-benzhydrol). The reversed-phase system (LiChrosorb RP-18; methanol-water, 7:3, v/v) enables the isolation and identification of the impurities. The chiral system (Chiralcel OD; hexane-2-propanol, 98:2, v/v) separates the enantiomers of flumecinol and its impurities.
