OBJECTIVE: To observe the microstructure and ultrastructure of Multiceps multiceps from the artificially infected dogs. Little is known about the actin cytoskeleton architecture in female Strongyloides venezuelensis and thus to investigate the distribution and concentration of actin, female worms were labelled with phalloidin-rhodamine and visualized under confocal microscopy. Our results demonstrate that filamentous actin accumulates in the vulva and the concentration of F-actin at this site suggests its important role, especially during oviposition, in the life cycle of S. venezuelensis.

A 16-year-old female patient had myoclonic epilepsy caused by Lafora's disease. Muscle biopsy showed a prominent splitting pattern in muscle fibers with the nicotinamide adenine nucleotide dehydrogenase-tetrazolium reductase reaction, hematoxylin-eosin, and PAS stains. This morphologic appearance of the tissue permits diagnosis using the benign technique of muscle biopsy. The ultrastructural examination of muscle may be necessary to confirm the diagnosis of Lafora myoclonus epilepsy if light microscopical findings are equivocal.

The structural development of the phreno-esophageal membrane was studied in 34 human fetuses ranging from 9-26 weeks of age. Horizontal and coronal sections of the lower esophagus, cardia, and diaphragm were stained with Victoria Blue and Gomori's aldehyde fuchsin to show elastic fibers, and with peracetic-aldehyde fuchsin to show pre-elastic, oxytalan, and elastic fibers, being the elastic elements. Three morphological types of axons have been recognized in previous studies of the serotoninergic (5-HT) innervation of the cat cerebral cortex (Mulligan and Törk, 1988; DeFelipe et al., 1991): thick, nonvaricose axons, fine axons with small varicosities, and beaded axons with large, spherical varicosities. The cellular localization of immunoreactive tissue kallikrein and kininogen was studied in normal and psoriatic human skin. Immunoreactivity to both enzyme and substrate was observed in secretory granules of the dark cells in the secretory fundus (acinus) of the sweat glands. Tall-cell and columnar-cell carcinomas have been regarded as aggressive variants of papillary thyroid carcinoma. In the present case report the authors describe a composite tumor where these forms of differentiation coexisted, with transitional changes occurring within single follicular structures. This finding indicates that the two variants are closely related. In local recurrences, one or the other feature appeared in separate lesions. Lung metastases developed, and the patient died 5 1/2 years after diagnosis and primary treatment.
