Learning in the arena: healthcare students' lived experience of interprofessional education in equine-assisted services.

This qualitative study explored healthcare students' lived experiences during an interprofessional education (IPE) event incorporating equine-assisted services (EAS). Traditional IPE events often rely on classroom settings that may limit interprofessional engagement, collaboration, and application. Utilizing interpretive phenomenological analysis, researchers examined how the equine environment influenced interprofessional learning among fourteen graduate students from diverse healthcare disciplines at a western United States public university. Participants engaged in experiential demonstratio

RESULTS: Gender minority students compared to cisgender students had four times the odds of reporting a

Don't know, don't care. III.

The knowledge of and interest in Department of Defense programs to help medical students with their educational expenses in exchange for military service as a physician was studied at three medical schools representing the eastern (University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/New Jersey Medical School [UMDNJ/NJMS]), midwestern (University of Missouri at Kansas City), and western (University of Utah) United States. Despite staggering indebtedness (40% of the class of 1998 at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey were in debt in excess of $100,000 at graduation), surprisin

Tailoring youth-friendly health services in Nigeria: a mixed-methods analysis of a designathon approach.

BACKGROUND: Young people in low- and middle-income countries are often neglected in designing youth-friendly health services, especially HIV testing and preventive services. Designathons, which are time-bounded co-creation events where individuals gather in teams to develop solutions to a problem, could promote youth participation and ownership of health services. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to examine youth participation in a designathon to create youth-friendly health services in Nigeria. METHODS: Our designathon was based on crowdsourcing principles and informed by a human-cen

All hands on deck during the COVID-19 pandemic. Maintaining face-to-face medical education and clinical placements.

Medical students must have robust educational experiences, graduate and commence timely employment. Here, we describe how the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) delivered clinical placements in medical programmes over the first three waves of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ireland, including a student-centred, holistic approach to students' educational, social and health needs with strong student involvement, re-organising the university's primary care team, developing COVID-19 PCR testing on site and re-focusing communications and student services. This resulted in re-arranging the student

Intimate Partner Violence and Help-seeking Behavior Among College Students Attending A Historically Black College and University.

This study provides critical evidence of the diversity of college students' experiences with intimate partner violence (IPV) and their informal and formal help-seeking behaviors at a historically Black college and university (HBCU). The study collected data on college students (N = 266) in fall 2021 using a one-site cross-sectional survey data. Findings revealed that many students at the HBCU reported IPV victimization (68.4%), IPV perpetration (68.0%), and coexperience of IPV victimization and perpetration (61.3%) in the past 12 months, but a few student survivors of IPV sought help from form

Promoting Resilience Among College Student Veterans Through an Acceptance-and-Commitment-Therapy App: An Intervention Refinement Study.

Military veterans' stigmatized views on mental disorders and traditional mental health care considerably reduce veterans' access to mental health services. The present study aimed to refine a previously developed non-stigmatizing smartphone-app intervention based on the principles of acceptance and commitment therapy for college student veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). To this end, we tested the acceptability of the developed prototype using a mixed-method study design. A total of nine student veterans participated in the study by using the app intervention and completing pr

Medical Student Screening of Social Determinants of Health in Urogynecology Surgical Patients.

BACKGROUND: Growing evidence documents the impacts that social determinants of health (SDoH) can have on medical and surgical outcomes, but many physicians report lacking the time to screen and address patients' SDoH. This gap creates an opportunity for medical students to apply their knowledge of SDoH in a clinical setting, actively participate as members of the medical team, and address a critical aspect of patient care. METHODS: In a pilot project, medical students rotating on the urogynecology surgical service were tasked with calling patients the day prior to their surgical encounter and

Influences of High School Physical Learning Environments on Students' Anxiety in China.

BACKGROUND: High school students are at an increased risk of developing generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) due to significant pressure to achieve academic success. AIM: Although it is known that a school's physical learning environment can influence students' GAD, there is limited research examining this relationship. To fill this knowledge gap, a cross-sectional study was conducted among 230 students from two high schools in China. METHODS: A survey questionnaire captured students' GAD self-evaluations (dependent variables), perceptions/preferences of their school physical environment (inde
