In this case report, we describe a case of primary retroperitoneal neuroendocrine carcinoma. An 85- year-old man presented with a 3-week history of left back pain. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed an 8×5 cm mass to the left of the aorta and multiple hepatic metastases. Immunohistochemistry staining of the tumor cells showed positivity for the neuroendocrine marker synaptophysin and a very high Ki67 proliferation index. He was treated with carboplatin and etoposide. INTRODUCTION: Metastasized pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors are extremely rare malignancies, especially in children. Therefore, therapeutic options are limited, and few standardized therapy regimens exist.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 14-year-old white girl. In 2011 she was diagnosed with a metastasized, well-differentiated pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor with expression of synaptophysin and chromogranin A. This article reports the clinical, histopathologic, and immunohistochemical findings in a case of small cell undifferentiated carcinoma of the submandibular gland. The tumor was composed of anaplastic cells slightly larger than lymphocytes without ductal differentiation. A 59-year-old man presented with clinical evidence of a primary tumor of the cauda equina region. It was well circumscribed and was completely removed by neurosurgery.
