In order to avoid amputation, which does not seem to improve survival in osteosarcoma, we have initiated a limb-preservation program using intra-arterial radiosensitization. Eleven osteosarcomas with soft tissue involvement and six other bone malignancies were prospectively treated according to the following protocol: (a) surgical insertion of an intra-arterial catheter through a Dacron patch, (b) intra-arterial infusion of 15 mg/kg BUDR on days 1-2 every 5 days for 40 days, (c) 600 rads flash irradiation on day 3 every 5 days, X 8. Soft-tissue chondromas are benign, relatively rare lesions. The clinicopathologic and radiologic features in six cases are presented and the literature is reviewed. OBJECTIVE: To determine the viability of percutaneous bone-anchored hearing systems (BAHS), in terms of local soft tissue complications, in the HIV population.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective folder review.
SETTING: Two tertiary-level academic state hospitals in Cape Town, South Africa.

Opportunistic infections of skin and soft tissue represent a rare but serious complication following solid organ transplantation. We report a case of severe soft tissue infection caused by Cryptococcus neoformans in a renal transplant recipient. Physicians need to consider the possibility of opportunistic pathogens when managing infections in immunocompromised hosts, especially when symptoms persist despite seemingly appropriate empiric antimicrobial therapy. Tissue sampling for histological and microbiological evaluation is usually necessary to establish a diagnosis.

OBJECTIVE: To present theories of manual treatment approaches to soft tissue injuries using an example case report.
CLINICAL FEATURES: A college tennis player with an ankle sprain for 6 weeks, not responding to standard treatment, was unable to play tennis or compete in tournaments.
INTERVENTION AND OUTCOME: Soft tissue treatment was applied to the ankle for 2 visits. The patient experienced complete resolution of the problem and returned to play without relapse during a 9-month follow-up period. Theories of myofascial distortion treatment are discussed.

One hundred thirty patients with lung cancer were studied to determine the incidence of unilateral thoracic soft-tissue accumulation (UTS) of 99mTc methylene diphosphonate (MDP). The finding was present in 60 of 130 (46%) of the patients. Of 52 patients who had received radiation therapy to the primary tumor in the chest, 46 (88%) had UTS, while six (12%) did not. Radiation therapy to lung tumors was the most significant of the factors studied in unilateral soft-tissue uptake of bone agent in the thorax of patients with lung cancer.
