Full Spectrum of Postnatal Tooth Phenotypes in a Novel Irf6 Cleft Lip Model.

Clefting of the lip, with or without palatal involvement (CLP), is associated with a higher incidence of developmental tooth abnormalities, including hypodontia and supernumerary teeth, aberrant crown and root morphologies, and enamel defects, although the underlying mechanistic link is poorly understood. As most CLP genes are expressed throughout the oral epithelium, the authors hypothesized that the expression of CLP genes may persist in the dental epithelium and thus, in addition to their earlier role in labiopalatine development, may play an important functional role in subsequent tooth pa

Optimal esthetics in single-tooth replacement with the Re-Implant system: a case report.

PURPOSE: This report demonstrates the use of root-analogue titanium implants for single-tooth replacement. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A maxillary lateral incisor was removed and a custom-made one-stage, root-analogue titanium implant (Re-Implant) with an apical extension and a healing cap was fabricated and placed immediately after tooth extraction. Six months later the healing cap was removed, an impression was taken, and a porcelain-fused-to-metal crown was fabricated and cemented. RESULTS: No complications occurred during the healing period. A good esthetic result was achieved with the final

Idiopathic external resorption of teeth.

An unerupted maxillary third molar tooth from a 57-year-old Caucasian male, which showed radiographic evidence of crown resorption, but was otherwise symptomless, was examined post-extraction by light and scanning electron microscopy. (SEM) Appearances of the residual dental tissues were consistent with a diagnosis of an invading external resorption with formation of pulpal granulation tissue, dentinal resorption and some dentinal metaplasia. SEM of crown fragments indicated a generally uniform pattern of enamel resorption, for which the ameloblasts rather than multinucleate cells were implica

A 3-year longitudinal study of the position of the gingival margin in man.

The position of the gingival margin of the incisor and canine teeth, indicated by clinical crown height, was measured using a standardised photographic technique, in 30 dental students over a 3-year period. There was a progressive increase in mean clinical crown height during this period, suggesting that continual passive eruption of the teeth was occurring. There was a significant slowing in the rate of change over the period 1975-1977 for tooth 33, the reason for which is unknown.

Midline correction by asymmetric reciprocal torque: a pilot study.

OBJECTIVE: Can we correct dental midline discrepancies by systematic torque bends on all canines and premolars without extraction and mesiodistal tooth movement? PATIENTS AND METHODS: Eight orthodontic patients (4 males, 4 emales, mean age 31 years) presented a dental midline discrepancy of 2-4 mm, moderate deviation of the chin, no skeletal asymmetry, and a horizontal orientation of the occlusal plane in the frontal aspect. On the side where the mandible was shifted medially, asymmetric torque bends moved the antagonist canine and both premolar crowns buccally, while palatal crown torque was

The cranial osteology and feeding ecology of the metriorhynchid crocodylomorph genera Dakosaurus and Plesiosuchus from the late Jurassic of Europe.

BACKGROUND: Dakosaurus and Plesiosuchus are characteristic genera of aquatic, large-bodied, macrophagous metriorhynchid crocodylomorphs. Recent studies show that these genera were apex predators in marine ecosystems during the latter part of the Late Jurassic, with robust skulls and strong bite forces optimized for feeding on large prey. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Here we present comprehensive osteological descriptions and systematic revisions of the type species of both genera, and in doing so we resurrect the genus Plesiosuchus for the species Dakosaurus manselii. Both species are diag

Strategic management of altered passive eruption in anterior implant therapy: A case report.

BACKGROUND: A clinical scenario in the esthetic zone is the presence of short clinical crowns, which, in the absence of occlusal wear and other injuries, is referred to as altered passive eruption (APE). The presence of APE can lead to esthetic issues, which can impact the patient's smile harmony. In esthetically demanding cases, APE must be addressed prior to or in conjunction with implant therapy, and failure to do so can result in esthetic complications and failure in prosthetic planning. This case report exhibits a digital workflow in treating such patients to achieve optimal outcomes. ME

Innovative treatment strategies for impacted maxillary central incisor and case comparisons: Case report.

BACKGROUND: The present article compares innovative treatment strategies for impacted maxillary central incisors, emphasizing the critical importance of prioritizing root development over rapid crown alignment. METHODS: Two case reports using distinct clinical approaches are presented. Case 1 utilized a traditional combination of closed-eruption surgical exposure and conventional orthodontic traction, while Case 2 utilized a novel root-oriented traction technique, which ensures the development of tooth roots and utilizes the natural eruption power. RESULTS: Both techniques achieved successfu

Treatment of multiple traumatized anterior teeth associated with an alveolar bone fracture in a 15-year-old school boy: a 2.5-year follow up.

We report a case of multiple dental traumas in a 15-year-old school boy who was hit by a stone. Clinical examinations revealed the avulsion of teeth 21, 22, and 23, an uncomplicated crown fracture of tooth 41, and a complicated crown fracture (CCF) of teeth 11, 31, and 33. An alveolar bone fracture and a root fracture in the apical third of tooth 23 were as well noted on radiographs. The avulsed teeth were replanted and rigidly splinted after an extraoral dry time of 90 min. Endodontic treatments were performed on teeth with CCFs. The dental morphology was restored using polyethylene fiber-rei

Multidisciplinary approach of a crown-root fracture using intentional replantation: a case report.

Crown-root fractures are complex traumatic injuries that require multidisciplinary management and afford uncertain prognosis. The purpose of this clinical article was to report the case of crown-root fracture where a multidisciplinary approach was successfully executed. A 10-year-old male patient who suffered a complicated crown-root fracture on a permanent maxillary central incisor was treated using an intentional 180°-rotation replantation technique, followed by endodontic therapy and restoration with resin composite. Two years after the initial treatment, the case was stable and the tooth w

Immediate placement of implant in fresh extraction socket with early loading.

Implant placement in maxillary anterior region has most aesthetic challenges in implant dentistry because tooth loss lead to bone resorption and collapse of gingival architecture, which lead to aesthetic compromise and inadequate bone for implant placement. Immediate implant placement into fresh extraction socket reduces the treatment time, cost, preserved the gingival aesthetic and increases the comfort of the patient. This article describes the procedure for immediate implant placement in fresh extraction socket and early loading of implant with zirconia crown. Clinical and radiographic exam
