Development and validation of a novel three-dimensional patient-specific pediatric brain phantom for computed tomography neuroimaging research.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric head computed tomography (CT) is widely used for urgent neuroimaging, but children's higher radiosensitivity makes protocol optimization and quantitative validation essential. Many available phantoms lack patient-specific pediatric anatomy and realistic brain-mimicking attenuation, limiting their relevance for neuro-CT research and benchmarking. OBJECTIVE: To develop and validate a CT-derived, patient-specific pediatric brain phantom that preserves anatomically faithful geometry and reproduces brain-mimicking soft-tissue attenuation with physics-validated energy dependen

Pre-trained artificial intelligence language model represents pragmatic language variability central to autism and genetically related phenotypes.

Many individuals with autism experience challenges using language in social contexts (i.e., pragmatic language). Characterizing and understanding pragmatic variability is important to inform intervention strategies and the etiology of communication challenges in autism; however, current manual coding-based methods are often time and labor intensive, and not readily applied in ample sample sizes. This proof-of-concept methodological study employed an artificial intelligence pre-trained language model, Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers, as a tool to address such challenges.

Bayesian model selection techniques as decision support for shaping a statistical analysis plan of a clinical trial: an example from a vertigo phase III study with longitudinal count data as primary endpoint.

BACKGROUND: A statistical analysis plan (SAP) is a critical link between how a clinical trial is conducted and the clinical study report. To secure objective study results, regulatory bodies expect that the SAP will meet requirements in pre-specifying inferential analyses and other important statistical techniques. To write a good SAP for model-based sensitivity and ancillary analyses involves non-trivial decisions on and justification of many aspects of the chosen setting. In particular, trials with longitudinal count data as primary endpoints pose challenges for model choice and model valida

Restricted versus liberal water intake for preventing morbidity and mortality in preterm infants.

BACKGROUND: Most premature infants are not sufficiently mature physiologically to take all of their required water and nutrients orally, and so they cannot regulate their own water intake. Thus, the caregiver must determine the amount of water to be given each day to such infants. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this review is to examine the effects of water intake on postnatal weight loss and on the risks of dehydration, patent ductus arteriosus, necrotizing enterocolitis, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, intracranial hemorrhage, and death in premature infants. SEARCH STRATEGY: Randomized clinical

Benchmarking molecular representations and machine learning algorithms for asymmetric catalysis: a palladium-catalysed decarboxylative asymmetric allylic alkylation case study.

Machine learning (ML) applied to metal-ligand asymmetric catalysis remains less explored compared to other applications, such as drug design or materials science. Current strategies frequently focus on augmenting pre-existing descriptors (e.g. those originally formulated for medicinal chemistry), the development of new bespoke steric and electronic descriptors, and the use of molecular fingerprints. Such method diversity, in the absence of user guidelines, makes selecting optimal ML tools to model new asymmetric catalysis problems challenging. This is exacerbated in early asymmetric catalysis

Modeling Negative Symptom Domain Neurobiology: Protocol for an Observational, Transdiagnostic, Translational Study.

BACKGROUND: Negative symptoms (NS) such as anhedonia (reduced pleasure), avolition (reduced motivation), asociality (social withdrawal), blunted affect (diminished emotional expression), and alogia (poverty of speech) are associated with poor functional outcomes in psychiatric and neurological disorders and are an unmet treatment need. Current medication primarily targets positive or affective symptoms, leaving NS neurobiology unaddressed. A critical research gap exists in understanding whether these symptoms share a common biological architecture across different diagnoses or whether they eme

A novel fast strategy to calculate equieffective doses under different dose rate conditions.

BACKGROUND: Radiopharmaceutical therapy (RPT) has gained notable attention for its potential in treating difficult cancers, with [177Lu]Lu-DOTATATE being a notable example. However, the radiobiology of RPT is less understood compared to external beam radiotherapy (EBRT), and dosimetry protocols are not standardized. Organ dose limits and tumor dose-response correlations are often based on radiobiologically motivated equieffective doses (EQDX). On top of absorbed dose, these measures are also functions of the absorbed dose rate and radiobiological parameters that quantify tissue radiosensitivit

ClinNetDx: a novel explainable ai framework for acute lymphoblastic leukemia detection using multi-modal clinical data.

Early identification of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is vital to respond on time; yet, presently existing diagnostic procedures still depend on laboratory knowledge, manual interpretation and many supplementary exams. This paper introduces ClinNetDx, a new hybrid deep learning model for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia prediction that combines a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and a Deep Neural Network (DNN) and employs structured blood test data and (optional) medical images to support good health and well-being. The proposed methodology includes a tabular-to-spatial transformation that
