Use of Sugammadex in "Cannot Intubate, Cannot Ventilate" Scenarios: A Systematic Review of Case Reports.

After an induction dose of rocuronium, sugammadex in a dose of 16 mg.kg -1 has been shown to provide early reversal of the neuromuscular blockade. However, the use of sugammadex to rescue a "cannot intubate, cannot ventilate" (CICV) scenario remains controversial. The aim of this systematic review was to discuss case reports describing the use of sugammadex as a rescue reversal in CICV scenarios and analyze the influencing factors potentially shaping the outcome of such reversal. The study has been registered on International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) (CRD4202451425

Association of sarcopenia and its prognostic value in symptomatic knee osteoarthritis among older people in China: the first longitudinal evidence from CHARLS.

BACKGROUND: Sarcopenia and knee osteoarthritis (KOA) are two common musculoskeletal disorders, often coexisting in aged population and potentially influencing each other. However, the underlying relationship between two conditions remains unclear and controversial. To fill this knowledge gap, we aimed to investigate the longitudinal association among the older Chinese population. METHODS: Data were attracted from 2 waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), and 6212 individuals aged ≥ 60 years were included. Sarcopenia status was defined by the Asian Working Group f

Navigating antenatal care: The lived experiences of adolescent girls and young women and caregiver perspectives in Zambia.

INTRODUCTION: Adolescent pregnancy remains a global concern, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Sub-Saharan African nations, including Zambia, bear a disproportionate burden of adolescent pregnancies, contributing to high rates of maternal and child mortality. Despite efforts to improve antenatal care (ANC) services, utilization rates remain suboptimal, especially among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW). OBJECTIVE: To explore the barriers and facilitators to ANC services among AGYW and how these factors might differ by age and HIV status. DESIGN: This qualitative study emp

Appropriate antibiotic use and antimicrobial resistance: knowledge, attitudes and behaviour of medical students and their needs and preferences for learning.

BACKGROUND: The impact of an appropriate use of antibiotics on the prevention of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has been demonstrated. Surveys have shown, however, that medical students do not feel sufficiently trained to use antibiotics wisely. The aims of our study were (1) to describe what medical students currently know about appropriate antibiotic use, and (2) to identify students' learning preferences as a basis for developing student-centred teaching modules to convey the basics of AMR prevention. METHODS: We performed an online survey at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Juli

Nurses' coping strategies caring for patients during severe viral pandemics: A mixed-methods systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Nurses play an essential role in responding to severe viral disease which bring considerable challenges to their personal and professional well-being. This subsequently can affect the delivery of care and healthcare systems' organisational capacity to respond. Understanding nurses' experiences of these challenges will help inform healthcare policies. AIM: To explore the experiences and coping strategies of nurses caring for patients during severe viral disease pandemics. DESIGN: A mixed-methods systematic review informed by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology. METHODS:

Multi-level manifestations of sexual stigma among men with same-gender sexual experience in Ghana.

Sexual stigma and discrimination toward men who have same-gender sexual experiences are present across the globe. In Ghana, same-gender sexual desires and relationships are stigmatized, and the stigma is sanctioned through both social and legal processes. Such stigma negatively influences health and other material and social aspects of daily life for men who have sex with men (MSM). However, there is evidence that stigma at the interpersonal level can intersect with stigma that may be operating simultaneously at other levels. Few studies provide a comprehensive qualitative assessment of the mu

Investigating Narrative Performance in Children With Developmental Language Disorder: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

PURPOSE: Narrative assessment is one potentially underutilized and inconsistent method speech-language pathologists may use when considering a diagnosis of developmental language disorder (DLD). However, narration research encompasses many varied methodologies. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to (a) investigate how various narrative assessment types (e.g., macrostructure, microstructure, and internal state language) differentiate children with typical development (TD) from children with DLD, (b) identify specific narrative assessment measures that result in greater group differe

Breaking Through Barriers: Factors That Influence Behavior Change Toward Leadership for Women in Academic Medicine.

Under-representation of women in leadership at Academic Medical Centers (AMCs) is a known challenge such that, in 2021, women made up only 28% of department chairs. AMCs are addressing the dearth of women leaders through targeted programming to create leadership pipelines of qualified women. The FLEX Leadership Development Program at the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine prepares women faculty for increased leadership opportunities. FLEX includes the opportunity to leverage executive coaching to accomplish individual goals. The FLEX program has the explicit goal of incr

Trends and associated factors in the uptake of HIV testing among female sex workers in Sino-Vietnam border areas in Guangxi, China: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: HIV testing is a primary prevention strategy against the HIV epidemic and an entry point for HIV/AIDS-related care, prevention and treatment. This study aimed to estimate the uptake of HIV testing among Sino-Vietnam female sex workers (FSWs) in Guangxi, China, from 2016 to 2018, and to identify the factors influencing HIV testing uptake. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among FSWs in two Sino-Vietnam border cities of Guangxi, China. The survey was conducted through face-to-face interview, the data were collected by a structured questionnaire, and HIV-1 infection was

Effectiveness of sexual health influencers identified by an ensemble machine learning model in promoting secondary distribution of HIV self-testing among men who have sex with men in China: study protocol for a quasi-experimental trial.

BACKGROUND: HIV self-testing (HIVST), especially the secondary distribution of HIVST (SD-HIVST) initiated by sexual health influencers (SHIs), has been recognized as an effective strategy in promoting HIV testing, especially among men who have sex with men (MSM). This quasi-experimental study aimed to evaluate whether SHIs identified through the ensemble machine learning approach can distribute more HIVST than those who identified by the empiricalscale. METHODS: We will recruit eligible adults (≥18 years old) who were assigned male gender at birth, and willing to participate in potential SD-H

Feasibility and applicability of Evenson sedentary behavior cut points applied to children with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities.

AIM: Sedentary behavior (SB) is widely studied as it is associated with cardiometabolic health and obesity issues. However, children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) have been understudied. Accelerometers are commonly used to measure SB in typically developing populations but may be inappropriate for IDD populations due to differences in body movement and physiologic responses to the activity. The use of Evenson sedentary cut-points, created based on typically developing children, has yet to be applied and/or examined in children with IDD. PURPOSE: A descriptive cross-se

The Relationship Between Sensory Reactivity Differences and Anxiety Subtypes in Autistic Children.

Autistic children are at greater risk of developing anxiety than their nonautistic peers. Sensory reactivity differences have been implicated as one of the risk factors. Specifically, sensory hyperreactivity has previously been linked to anxiety, including separation anxiety and specific phobia; however, minimal research has explored the influence of sensory hyporeactivity and seeking. Therefore, the present study examined the correlational relationship between sensory reactivity differences and anxiety subtypes in 41 autistic children aged between 3 and 14 years, using parent- and self-report

Scoping review of the morphology and anthropometry of Tessier craniofacial clefts numbers 3 and 4.

BACKGROUND: In 2016, WHO reported a death rate of 303,000 newborns before 4 weeks of age due to congenital anomalies. Those that survive congenital anomalies may have long-term disabilities which may have significant impacts on the individual, their families, the healthcare system, and societies. Tessier craniofacial clefts numbers 3 and 4 are congenital anomalies that result in a partial or total defect of craniofacial tissues thereby seriously influencing the patient's appearance and impair normal functioning. Therefore, understanding these defects is paramount to relieving the burden caused

Delivering HIV care in challenging operating environments: the MSF experience towards differentiated models of care for settings with multiple basic health care needs.

INTRODUCTION: Countries in the West and Central African regions struggle to offer quality HIV care at scale, despite HIV prevalence being relatively low. In these challenging operating environments, basic health care needs are multiple, systems are highly fragile and conflict disrupts health care. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has been working to integrate HIV care in basic health services in such settings since 2000. We review the implementation of differentiated HIV care and treatment approaches in MSF-supported programmes in South Sudan (RoSS), Central African Republic (CAR) and Democratic

Implementing school nursing strategies to reduce LGBTQ adolescent suicide: a randomized cluster trial study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Reducing youth suicide in the United States (U.S.) is a national public health priority, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning (LGBTQ) youth are at elevated risk. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) endorses six evidence-based (EB) strategies that center on meeting the needs of LGBTQ youth in schools; however, fewer than 6 % of U.S. schools implement all of them. The proposed intervention model, "RLAS" (Implementing School Nursing Strategies to Reduce LGBTQ Adolescent Suicide), builds on the Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, and

Mood repair via attention refocusing or recall of positive autobiographical memories by adolescents with pediatric-onset major depression.

BACKGROUND: Impaired emotion regulation is increasingly recognized as a core feature of depressive disorders. Indeed, currently and previously depressed adults both report greater problems in attenuating sadness (mood repair) in daily life than healthy controls. In contrast, studies of various strategies to attenuate sad affect have mostly found that currently or previously depressed adults and controls were similarly successful at mood repair in the laboratory. But few studies have examined mood repair among depression-prone youths or the effects of trait characteristics on mood repair outcom

Early-life exposures and early-onset uterine leiomyomata in black women in the Sister Study.

BACKGROUND: Uterine leiomyomata (fibroids) are hormonally responsive tumors, but little is known about risk factors. Early-life exposures may influence uterine development and subsequent response to hormones in adulthood. An earlier analysis of non-Hispanic white women who participated in the Sister Study found associations between several early-life factors and early-onset fibroids. OBJECTIVES: We evaluated associations of early-life and childhood exposures with early-onset fibroids among black women and compared the results with those found among white women. METHODS: We analyzed baseline

Children with language problems in a speech and hearing clinic: background variables and extent of language problems.

OBJECTIVE: Analysis of a clinical population referred for language analysis in terms of background variables and extent of language problems. DESIGN: Descriptive study. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Children referred to a speech and hearing clinic because of assumed language problems were analyzed with standardized tests for language comprehension (Dutch version of the Reynell Developmental Comprehension Scale) and language production (Schlichting test for sentence development). A language problem was defined when the language quotient score differed 1.3S.D. from the mean (quotient scores< or =80).

Nurses' Clinical Alarm-Related Behaviors and Their Associated Factors in Malawian Critical Care Units: A Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Understanding nurses' clinical alarm-related behaviors is crucial for enhancing patient safety in critical care settings. These settings operate under significant constraints that profoundly influence how nurses prioritize and respond to alarms. While suboptimal alarm management has been extensively studied in well-resourced settings, research remains scarce in resource-constrained settings. This study aimed to evaluate nurses' clinical alarm-related behaviors and their associated factors in critical care units within resource-limited contexts. METHODS: An analytical cross-section
