Subarachnoid hemorrhage increases the plasma level of vasopressin, a well-known vasoconstrictor. We examined the sensitivity to vasopressin in rat basilar artery after subarachnoid hemorrhage using a rat subarachnoid hemorrhage model. The patch-clamp technique was used to investigate ionic channels in the apical membrane of rabbit proximal tubule cells in primary culture. Notions on the molecular mechanisms of anesthesia are presented. The chemical characteristics are given for main representatives of certain groups of local anesthetics with peculiarities of their membrane-tropic action mentioned. The effect of local anesthetics on the synaptic transmission, membrane enzymes, ion transport through the cell membranes is considered simultaneously with the anesthesia phenomenon on the basis of the data available in literature and results of the authors' investigations.

The influence of various toxic substances and of drugs with ototoxic side effects upon energy generation, energy utilization, and membrane processes of the cochlea were studied. None of the drugs tested interfered with energy generation to as great an extent as did anoxia or cyanide and 2,4-dinitrophenol.
