Female genital tuberculosis remains a rare extrapulmonary manifestation, particularly when presenting as isolated ovarian involvement mimicking malignancy. We report a case discovered incidentally during pre-transplant screening in an immunocompromised patient on hemodialysis. A 37-year-old woman with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis for 5 years underwent routine pre-kidney transplant evaluation. Computed tomography revealed a multiloculated left adnexal mass (38 × 33 mm). She was asymptomatic without tuberculosis exposure history. Transvaginal ultrasound demonstrated a thin-septated av

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global health problem, particularly in children, who are at higher risk of extrapulmonary and disseminated disease. Ocular tuberculosis is a rare manifestation and often presents with nonspecific signs, leading to delayed diagnosis. Case Presentation: We report the case of a five-year-old previously healthy boy presenting with a two-month history of persistent fever. Initial investigations revealed a positive tuberculin skin test and interferon gamma release assay, with chest CT findings suggestive of miliary TB. Despite negative microbiological te

Bovine tuberculosis (bTB), caused by Mycobacterium bovis, is a zoonosis of global concern due to the absence of effective vaccines or treatments. The conventional diagnostic method, the single intradermal comparative cervical tuberculin test (SICTT), is limited by cost and sensitivity, hindering control strategies. To overcome these limitations, an ELISA that detects specific IgG antibodies against M. bovis using the recombinant protein Mb1454 was developed. The optimized ELISA conditions included 0.5 µg of recombinant Mb1454 protein for plate sensitization, PBMT blocking buffer (PBS + 1 % BSA…

RATIONALE, AIMS, AND OBJECTIVE: Contact tracing and screening is an essential strategy in tuberculosis (TB) control. Our aim is to assess factors associated with the degree of compliance with the main recommendations made to contacts of TB cases as part of the contact tracing programme, and to identify factors associated with non-compliance.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study to assess the TB contact tracing programme at a Spanish hospital over the period 1998-2013.
RESULTS: A total 2269 contacts were identified corresponding to 644 active TB index cases, and initial screenin

OBJECTIVE: The differential diagnosis of sarcoidosis and tuberculosis is difficult, especially in countries with a high tuberculosis burden. We hypothesized that sonographic features on endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS) would help in differentiating tuberculosis from sarcoidosis. In this study, the endosonographic features of tuberculosis and sarcoidosis are compared.
METHODS: This was a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data of patients with intrathoracic lymphadenopathy who underwent EBUS-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA), and were finally diagnosed with sarc
