Diagnostic evaluation, classification, and treatment of men with sexual dysfunction.

During a two-year period, 165 men were evaluated for sexual dysfunction. Most evaluations were conducted on an outpatient basis and required two separate visits. Fifty-one per cent, 47 per cent, and 2 per cent of the patients were found to have functional disorders, organic disorders, and incomplete evaluations, respectively. Treatment recommendations were tailored to each patient using information gathered during the diagnostic evaluation.

[Classification and growth of loose bodies in joints (author's transl)].

A loose body in a joint can be attributed to various factors, such as osteochondritis dissecans, osteochondral fracture, synovial chondromatosis, or fracture of osteophytes in osteoarthritis. Some of the cases involving loose bodies in joints have evident etiological factors identified on the basis of radiographic and/or operative findings, while the others have etiological factors which have not yet been clarified. We have therefore investigated loose bodies taken from joints at arthrotomy and attempted to establish the process involved in their growth by histopathological, microradiographic

Personal results, trial of classification and standardization in clinical impedancemetry.

The author analyzes the results obtained in clinical impedance testing of 2,799 ears by tympanometry and study of the acoustico-facial reflex. Impedance terminology is discussed and classified in an attempt to bring order to the results. Important findings include the high incidence of negative middle ear pressure in older, profoundly hard-of-hearing children.

On the classification of penis carcinoma and its 10-year survival.

With respect to the primary tumor there is no difference between the proposal of the UICC and the Heidelberg version for TNM classification of the penis carcinoma. Clinically the Heidelberg scheme seems more practical, but there were no statistical differences between them. With respect to the prognosis for the patient, the size and localization of the primary tumor are of secondary importance. What is important is the degree of tumor spreading in the lymph system. From this point of view, one needs only to differentiate between T1 (tumor restricted to the penis) and T2 (tumor extending the bo…

The chemistry of local anaesthetic agents: classification of blocking agents.

Compounds with local anaesthetic properties may be classified according to their action upon the nerve membrane. Four classes of agent are recognized: A. Compounds acting at the exterior of the sodium channels; B. Compounds acting at the axoplasmic part of the sodium channels; C. Compounds acting through a physicochemical mechanism; BC. Compounds acting by a combination of B and C mechanisms. The chemical basis for these different mechanisms is discussed.
