INTRODUCTION: Knee arthrodesis may be the last possible option for infected total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients and in revision cases involving severe bone loss and/or extensor mechanism damages. Success in these situations depends on achieving good fixation assembly stability. We report bone fusion results using a fixation technique combining cross-pinning by two Steinman pins with a single-frame external fixator. Remission of infection at long-term follow-up was an additional criteria assessed for those cases initially treated for sepsis.

INTRODUCTION: Suicides are the second most common cause of non-natural death in Germany after accidents. Most common is death by hanging, followed by the use of firearms. More frequent "simple" suicides in which one suicide method is used are distinguished from rare "complex" suicides, in which several methods are applied, whereby the combination of gunshot and strangulation is frequently chosen. Such cases require a thorough criminalistic and forensic medical examination to check the plausibility of assumed sequences of events and to detect covered-up homicides.

A 36 year old white female came to our service after having been evaluated on repetitive occasions in the past for a workup of gigantism and acromegalic features. Since childhood she had developed tall stature, frontal bossing, prominence of zygomatic bones, separated teeth, large hands and size 14 shoes. Human growth hormone and somatomedin serum levels had been normal on all occasions tested. Her past history was significant for primary amenorrhea and a 12 year history of hypertension. On physical examination BP was 140/100, height 6' 2", weight 2571 bs. Her phenotype was truly acromegalic.

We report a 28-year-old G2P0 at 24 weeks 5 days who presented for evaluation secondary to suspected skeletal dysplasia in her fetus.
