OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: To further recognize the comorbid diseases of immunoglobulin G4-related sialadenitis (IgG4-RS) in the head and neck region and to observe the response of these conditions to immunomodulatory therapy.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective review.
METHODS: The symptoms of comorbid diseases and medical histories in 51 patients (24 men, 27 women; median age, 55 years) diagnosed with IgG4-RS were analyzed. Thirty-six patients received immunomodulatory therapy and were followed up for 10.4 ± 5.9 months. Computed tomography (CT) examination was performed before and after therapy.

Sonographic texture analysis can reflect histopathological components and their arrangement in metastatic and common benign lymph nodes. It is helpful in differentiation between metastatic and benign lymph node lesions for target selection during biopsy of multiple lymph nodes and the strategy of the management. Two ultrasound systems, 107 sonographic regions of interest (ROIs) of metastases and 174 sonographic ROIs of common benign lymph nodes, were recruited in the study. Thirteen texture features derived from co-occurrence matrix were used in characterization of above ROI ultrasound images.

The relationship between post-BCG complications and the practices of administration and/or use of certain batches of BCG vaccine was investigated. A questionnaire were given to nurses administering BCG vaccination. An abstraction sheet was used to analyse cases with BCG complications among infants (n = 552) and schoolchildren (n = 97). BACKGROUND: We previously reported that Fas antigen was strongly expressed on salivary duct epithelial cells and that some salivary infiltrating cells showed the Fas ligand in patients with severe sialoadenitis due to Sjögren's syndrome (SS). Apoptotic changes were observed in ductal epithelial cells and some infiltrating cells by DNA nick end labeling methods. These findings suggest that the Fas-Fas ligand system may play a role in the pathogenesis of sialoadenitis in SS.
