Three-dimensional ultrasonographic application for analyzing synovial hypertrophy of the knee in patients with osteoarthritis.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate 3-dimensional (3D) ultrasonography for the visualization of intra-articular synovial hypertrophy in patients with osteoarthritis. METHODS: Knee joints of 22 patients with osteoarthritis were examined by 3D ultrasonography, and their synovial fluids were analyzed. Ultrasonographic image patterns, vascular endothelial growth factor and transforming growth factor beta concentrations in synovial fluid, and serum inflammatory markers were analyzed. RESULTS: It was possible to visualize the intra-articular structure by 3D ultrasonography. Three-

Preoperative measurement of femoral head using 3D-CT spherical fitting technique for the guidance of femoroplasty in arthroscopic treatment of cam-type femoroacetabular impingement: a cohort validation.

PURPOSE: Arthroscopic femoroplasty is the primary treatment of Cam-type femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), in which the most important problem is how to evaluate Cam deformity sufficiently and remove osteophytes accurately. This study aimed to measure Cam deformity in each patient with 3D-CT spherical fitting technique, plan the resection range of Cam deformity preoperatively, so as to achieve precise resection intraoperatively and evaluate the prognosis. METHODS: Patients of Cam-type FAI and underwent hip arthroscopy during August 2024 to February 2025 were involved. Preoperatively, all pat…

Comparative evaluation of large language model-based AI platforms for radiographic assessment in rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by progressive joint damage. Early diagnosis of this disease is cruc … e evaluated: articular space narrowing, deformity, central erosions, marginal erosions, osteopenia, osteophytes, subluxations, and ankylosis. Six certified radiologists independently evaluated the images, and a reference standard was developed. The results of AI model diagnostics were compared with those of experts across 143 observations that could be evalu …

The current state of computed tomography in osteoarthritis research.

CT has evolved into a complementary tool for three-dimensional (3-D) structural assessment in OA research. This review highlights advances across key domains of CT-based OA imaging: structural features, shape modeling, alignment, contact stress modeling, bone morphometry and BMD, articular cartilage, meniscus, and combination with other modalities. CT's high-resolution bone visualization enables accurate quantification of osteophytes, subchondral bone cysts, and sclerosis, as well as precise measurement of joint space width (JSW). The high geometric fidelity of CT also facilitates 3-D bone sha…

WBCT more sensitively detected patellofemoral cartilage abnormalities, osteophytes, subchondral cysts, and meniscal extrusion than radiographs and non-weight-bearing MRI. Preoperative three-dimensional simulation and clinical evaluation of in-situ bone harvesting in anterior cervical discectomy and fusion surgery.

BACKGROUND: The supplemental harvesting of in-situ bone obtained from cervical vertebrae as cage-filling material in anterior cervical disce … cs software. The volumes of the harvested in-situ bone graft, including the anterior lip, posterior osteophytes, and Luschka's joint volumes, were measured during the simulated surgery. Osteoarthritis of the sternoclavicular joint: is clavicular length a risk factor?

INTRODUCTION: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most prevalent disorder of the Sternoclavicular Joint (SCJ), with a reported lifetime prevalence of … our hospital between 2012 and 2014 were evaluated. OA was defined radiologically by the presence of osteophytes, subchondral cysts, or cortical sclerosis, and a score from 0 to 6 was assigned according to the severity of these changes. Medial-most and lateral-most points of the clavicle were used to determine clavicular length. The x-, y-, and z-coordinates …

Research progress on biodegradable polymer-based drug delivery systems for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis.

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a disease that involves multiple anatomical and physiological changes in the knee tissues, including cartilage degeneration, bone remodelling and formation of bony encumbrances, which leads to clinical manifestations including pain, stiffness, swelling and limitation of knee function. Knee osteoarthritis is a chronic joint disease characterised by degenerative cartilage lesions and secondary osteophytes in the knee joint. The symptoms of knee osteoarthritis tend to progress slowly, and at this stage, the number of patients with KOA is increasing. However, due to th…

Anterior Ankle Impingement Syndrome With Spur Fragmentation: Is It an Os Talotibiale?

BACKGROUND: Bone fragments are often found in ankles with anterior bony impingement. However, whether they are detached osteophytes or accessory bones remains unknown. METHODS: Among the 66 continuously enrolled cases of ankles with anterior bony impingement, 32 had a fragment located at the anterior margin of the tibia. The cases of posterior impingement, lateral instability, osteochondral lesions, or free bodies simultaneously treated were excluded. The enrolled subjects were classified into 2 groups: ankles without (group A) and with remarkable spurs (group B). The patients' backgrounds, l…

Clinical Study of a Four-Step Program for the Treatment of Plantar Fasciitis with Bone Spurs.

OBJECTIVE: The most common causes of plantar and heel pain are plantar fasciitis and calcaneal spurs, and they often co-exist. Surgery is a recognized treatment for refractory plantar fasciitis. However, few studies have proposed treatment options for patients with metatarsophalangeal fasciitis with bone spurs. Accordingly, this study's purpose was to propose a four-step surgical regimen, and to improve the surgical outcome of plantar fasciitis with osteophytes and to establish a procedure for surgical treatment. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of 45 patients suffering from plantar fasciitis …
