Community perceptions of chemsex practices in Türkiye: a cross-sectional online survey.

BACKGROUND: Chemsex, a form of sexualised substance use, is using psychoactive substances to enhance sexual pleasure. It is most commonly practised by gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men, transgender and non-binary people. Although chemsex has been increasingly discussed globally, it remains insufficiently studied in many societies due to the stigma and criminalisation of some forms of drug use and sexual behaviour. We aimed to describe community perceptions of chemsex in Türkiye, including perceived substance use patterns, associated benefits and harms and barriers to discussion

Penile HPV prevalence and associated factors among 20-70-year-old men from Gampaha district in Sri Lanka: a community-based study in a lower middle-income country.

BACKGROUND: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the leading cause of sexually transmitted infections worldwide. Male HPV infection contributes towards disease burden in males and plays a crucial role in transmission to females. This is especially significant in Lower Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) which bear 90% of the global cervical cancer burden. Most existing data on male HPV prevalence come from high-income countries, yet evidence from LMICs is crucial for informing cost-effective male HPV vaccination and targeted prevention strategies. Present study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of

Cultural Competence Among Optometry Students at a South African University: Cross-Sectional Survey Study.

BACKGROUND: Cultural competence is an essential dimension of contemporary health care delivery, particularly in diverse, multicultural societies. South Africa, with its rich linguistic and cultural plurality, presents a unique context in which culturally responsive care is critical for equitable health outcomes. Despite growing international attention to cultural competence in health professions education, little research has explored this domain within optometry education in sub-Saharan Africa. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess self-reported levels of cultural competence, specifically pr

Mental health disorders, childhood adversities, and recent stressors as risk factors for non-suicidal self-injury, and suicidality among LGBTQA + higher education students.

BACKGROUND: Prevalence rates of mental health disorders, non-suicidal self-injury and suicidality among Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Asexual (LGBTQA+) higher education students are consistently higher than rates for heterosexual students. Nevertheless, in the United Kingdom, there remains limited prevalence data and evidence on the risk factors that confer increased risk of suicide among this population. The purpose of the present study was to investigate mental health disorders, childhood adversities, and recent stressors as risk factors for non-suicidal self-injury, and sui

Understanding African American/Black and Latine young and emerging adults living with HIV: a sequential explanatory mixed methods study focused on self-regulatory resources.

BACKGROUND: HIV care continuum engagement is inadequate among African American/Black and Latine (AABL) young/emerging adults living with HIV in the United States. Within this population, some subgroups face barriers to research and are under-studied. Grounded in social action theory, the present study focuses on a diverse community-recruited cohort including those with non-suppressed HIV viral load. Using a sequential explanatory mixed methods design, we describe contextual self-regulatory resources (e.g., substance use, mental health), and their relationships to HIV management. METHODS: Part

Odontometric analysis of permanent mandibular first and second premolars in an Indian population using cone beam computed tomography.

INTRODUCTION: Awareness and knowledge of treatment as prevention (TasP) was assessed among HIV-positive and HIV-negative gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) in Vancouver, Canada. METHODS: Baseline cross-sectional survey data were analyzed for GBMSM enrolled, via respondent-driven sampling (RDS), in the Momentum Health Study. TasP awareness was defined as ever versus never heard of the term "TasP." Multivariable logistic regression identified covariates of TasP awareness. Among those aware of TasP, men's level of knowledge of TasP was explored through an examination of se

Evolving landscape of economic evaluations of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis and pre-exposure prophylaxis implementation strategies: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Economic evaluations of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and associated implementation strategies guide evidence-based policies, programmes and resource allocation. Since 2015, there has been an evolution in PrEP modalities, implementation strategies and prioritization of key populations with unmet HIV prevention needs, alongside the scale-up of other HIV prevention interventions. Our systematic review describes the evolving landscape of economic evaluations of PrEP to help identify evidence gaps relevant to the current HIV epidemic and response (PROSPERO: CRD42016038440). ME

Long-Term Health Outcomes of People with HIV Engaged in Chemsex: A Prospective Cohort Study on Drug Use, Sexual Behaviour, Sexually-Transmitted Infections and Vulnerability.

INTRODUCTION: Chemsex, the intentional use of drugs to enhance sexual experiences among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (gbMSM), is linked to high-risk sexual behaviours and increased sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Data on its long-term evolution after implementing specific strategies in HIV settings are limited. We evaluated the incidence of drug use, sexual behaviour, STIs, and vulnerabilities over 3 years following a specific approach at the HIV Unit of Hospital Clinic in Barcelona, Spain. METHODS: We included 209 gbMSM living with HIV who engaged in chemsex in

Brain Health Outcomes in Sexual and Gender Minority Groups: Results From the All of Us Research Program.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Sexual and gender minority (SGM) groups have been historically underrepresented in neurologic research, and their brain health disparities are unknown. We aim to evaluate whether SGM persons are at higher risk of adverse brain health outcomes compared with cisgender straight (non-SGM) individuals. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study in the All of Us Research Program, a US population-based study, including all participants with information on gender identity and sexual orientation. We used baseline questionnaires to identify sexual minority (lesbian, gay, b

Use of Machine Learning Tools in Evidence Synthesis of Tobacco Use Among Sexual and Gender Diverse Populations: Algorithm Development and Validation.

BACKGROUND: From 2016 to 2021, the volume of peer-reviewed publications related to tobacco has experienced a significant increase. This presents a considerable challenge in efficiently summarizing, synthesizing, and disseminating research findings, especially when it comes to addressing specific target populations, such as the LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, Two Spirit, and other persons who identify as part of this community) populations. OBJECTIVE: In order to expedite evidence synthesis and research gap discoveries, this pilot study has the following

Adverse Childhood Experiences and Health Conditions and Risk Behaviors Among High School Students - Youth Risk Behavior Survey, United States, 2023.

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are preventable, potentially traumatic events occurring before age 18 years. Data on ACEs among adolescents in the United States have primarily been collected through parent report and have not included important violence-related ACEs, including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. This report presents the first national prevalence of self-reported ACEs among U.S. high school students aged <18 years, estimates associations between ACEs and 16 health conditions and risk behaviors, and calculates population-attributable fractions of ACEs with these conditio

Demographic differences in the cascade of care for unhealthy alcohol use: A cross-sectional analysis of data from the 2015-2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

BACKGROUND: The screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) model is recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force to improve recognition of and intervention for unhealthy alcohol use. How SBIRT implementation differs by demographic characteristics is poorly understood. METHODS: We analyzed data from the 2015-2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health from respondents ≥18 years old who used an outpatient clinic and had at least one alcoholic drink within the past year. Respondents were grouped into one of three mutually exclusive groups: "no binge drinking or al

Evaluating Litigation as a Structural Strategy for Addressing Bias-Based Bullying Among Youth.

IMPORTANCE: Homophobic bullying-which is motivated by actual or perceived sexual orientation-is a common experience among youth and is more strongly associated with adverse outcomes than bullying unrelated to bias. Yet current approaches to reducing homophobic bullying either lack empirical evidence or encounter significant obstacles. Thus, the field requires the identification of strategies that hold promise for reducing homophobic bullying. OBJECTIVE: To examine whether litigation is associated with reductions in homophobic bullying. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: In this quasi-experim
