Central Corneal Epithelial Wounding Accelerates Aniridia-Associated Keratopathy in PAX6-Deficient Mice.

PURPOSE: To investigate corneal healing in a Pax6+/- mouse model of aniridia-associated keratopathy (AAK) when challenged with a mild epithelial wound. METHODS: Pax6+/- small-eye (Sey) mice (n = 15) and Pax6+/+ wild-type mice (n = 4) on the 129S1/SvImJ background underwent 1 mm central corneal mechanical epithelial debridement. Corneal status before and four weeks after wounding was evaluated by slit-lamp imaging. Longitudinal corneal thickness was measured using optical coherence tomography (OCT), and AAK was graded in Sey mice. Wounded corneas were additionally compared to unwounded contral

Long-Term Evolution of Chronic Neuropathic Ocular Pain and Dry Eye Following Corneal Refractive Surgery.

Background/Objectives: Chronic neuropathic ocular pain (NOP) can manifest concurrently with dry eye (DE) symptoms following ocular surgical procedures. Due to its low prevalence, NOP remains an underrecognized and underdiagnosed postoperative complication, leading to suboptimal management. This study evaluated the long-term evolution of symptoms, signs, and tear biomarkers in patients with NOP and DE after corneal refractive surgery (RS). Methods: Patients with chronic NOP and persistent DE-related symptoms after corneal RS were assessed in two visits (V1 and V2), at least two years apart. Sym

miR-497 knockout aggravates alkali burn-induced corneal neovascularization via VEGFA and FGF2 pathways in mice models.

PURPOSE: Corneal neovascularization (CNV) plays a crucial role in the pathophysiology of alkali burn. Recent studies have suggested that microRNAs (miRNAs) may offer a novel therapeutic approach for treating CNV. However, the role of miR-497 in the context of alkali burns remains poorly understood. This study aims to explore the role and underlying mechanisms of miR-497 in the treatment of alkali burn-induced CNV in mice. METHODS: C57BL/6 wild-type mice were used as the control group, while CRISPR/Cas9-mediated miR-497 knockout mice served as the experimental group. Mice were grouped based on
