Overuse activity has been implicated as an etiologic factor in injury to the rotator cuff and to the supraspinatus tendon in particular. Due in part to the lack of an appropriate animal model, expex85ental studies have not addressed this issue. With the use of a rat model, we measured the effects of an overuse running regimen on 36 Sprague-Dawley rats after 4 (n = 12), 8 (n = 12), or 16 (n = 12) weeks of exercise and compared them with a control group of rats (n = 10) who were allowed normal cage activity. The histologic characteristics, the gross morphologic characteristics, and the mechanica

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare the risk of injury to the suprascapular nerve during suture anchor placement in the glenoid when using an anterosuperior portal versus a rotator interval portal.
METHODS: Ten bilateral fresh human cadaveric shoulders were randomized to anchor placement through the anterosuperior portal on one shoulder and the rotator interval portal on the contralateral shoulder. Standard 3 × 14 mm suture anchors were placed in the glenoid rim (1 o'clock, 11 o'clock, and 10 o'clock positions for the right shoulder). The suprascapular nerve was dissected. When

BackgroundArtificial intelligence (AI), especially machine and deep learning, is an emerging tool in medicine with growing applications in orthopedic imaging. Given imaging's central role in diagnosis, surgical planning, and treatment monitoring, this narrative review maps the current and potential uses of AI in orthopedics, identifies underdevelopment sections, and emphasizes limitations in clinical practice.MethodsA PubMed search used the terms "Orthopedic," "Imaging," and "Artificial Intelligence." Studies were screened by title and abstract, excluding non-orthopedic or non-AI studies, anim

This study aimed to assess the impact of the VolleyVeilig program on enhancing upper extremity performance in female volleyball players. While previous research has focused mainly on lower extremity injury prevention, there remains a significant lack of studies examining how structured warm-up routines can influence upper extremity performance in the sport. A quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test was used. Thirty female volleyball players, aged 16 to 21, were randomly divided into two groups: VolleyVeilig intervention group and traditional warm-up group. The VolleyVeilig warm-u

INTRODUCTION: Closed treatment of comminuted, displaced greater tuberosity fractures (GTFs) can result in nonunion or malunion, causing rotator cuff dysfunction and/or subacromial impingement. This study evaluates the outcomes and complications of combined suture anchor and screw fixation technique for the treatment of GTFs.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective case series included 13 patients with displaced GTFs (> 5 mm) who underwent screw and double-row suture bridge fixation from 2019 to 2024 at a single institution. Patient demographics, injury mechanisms, fracture characteristics,

Fractures of the proximal humerus account for 4%-8% of injuries to the appendicular skeleton. Most are stable, minimally displaced osteoporotic fractures in the elderly, and are the result of low-energy falls. A large majority of these patients regain adequate shoulder function without operative intervention. Surgery is considered in approximately 20% of patients because they require improved shoulder function for their activities of daily living or because of the significant deformity of their fracture and the need to restore functional alignment, length, and rotation in active, higher demand

SLAP lesions can be significant pain generators in the shoulder. These injuries are the most common shoulder injury in overhead athletes, as repetitive overhead motion is the most common etiology of SLAP lesions. These lesions present a diagnostic and treatment challenge to patients and physicians. Factors to consider when discussing treatment options for SLAP lesions include age, type of sports activity, level of sports participation, and degree of symptoms. Nonoperative management is the first-line treatment for most young, active patients without history of trauma, mechanical symptoms, and/

BACKGROUND: Vaccines administered into or too close to underlying joint structures have the potential to cause shoulder injuries. Limited data exist on the epidemiology of such events.
OBJECTIVE: To describe case reports of atypical shoulder pain and dysfunction following injection of inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV).
METHODS: We searched the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) database from July 2010 to June 2017 for reports of atypical shoulder pain and dysfunction following IIV. When identifying reports, we made no assumptions about true incident injury or causality with res

INTRODUCTION: Shoulder pain is a common cause of consultation in Primary Health Care, and may correspond to up to 30% of the reasons for consultation. Pathology of the rotator cuff is the most common cause of pain. Ultrasound is a valuable diagnostic tool in assessing shoulder disorders; it can be as effective as magnetic resonance imaging.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the predictive factors of response to treatment and ultrasound findings in shoulder pain.
METHODS: We performed an analysis of the patients' cases sent to the rheumatology consultation with shoulder pain, every patient had an echog

INTRODUCTION: Rotator cuff tears are a common injury, with patients presenting with shoulder pain and functional limitation. Clinically significant tears are usually managed by surgery, with the hope of faster and superior recovery, both in terms of pain relief and shoulder function. In day-to-day practice, we often use good pain relief as a sign that the patient is doing well overall. However, whether pain relief and functional recovery actually move together, or whether one lags behind the other, is not something that is usually checked directly in the same group of patients.
OBJECTIVE: The
