Expression of contact allergy in undergoing prosthodontic therapy patients with oral diseases.

AIM: Contact allergy is a postponed reaction of hypersensitivity where a localised cutaneous or mucosal lesion occurs due to a recurrent contact with an allergen. Placement of a fixed or removable prosthetic replacement into the oral cavity causes corrosive processes on the surface of the restoration and discharge of ions, which as haptens can induce allergic reactions. The purpose of this study was to examine occurrence of allergies to basic and auxiliary restorative dental materials in patients with lichen, stomatitis and stomatopyrosis by means of an epicutaneous allergy test. METHODS: The

Anterior lumbar interbody fusion with titanium mesh cages, coralline hydroxyapatite, and demineralized bone matrix as part of a circumferential fusion.

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) has become one of the primary choices for eliminating motion between vertebral segments in patients with severe discogenic pain and other lumbar pathologies. Autograft is the gold standard for spinal fusion. However, multiple authors have reported complication and morbidity rates associated with iliac crest harvesting to be as high as 25%. Drawbacks to the use of allograft in the anterior column include slower incorporation rates, the possibility for disease transmission, increasing cost resulting from stringent processing and unavail

Tensile strength of three resin cements following two alloy surface treatments.

Retainers for composite retained prostheses ("Maryland bridges") have traditionally relied upon an etched base metal alloy for micromechanical retention. This study compared the tensile bond strength of three resin cements using two alloy surface treatments. Rexillium III and Olympia disks were cast, oxidized, and given simulated porcelain firings. Paired specimens were cemented with Comspan, Panavia EX, or C & B Metabond after air abrasion with aluminum oxide or silicoating. Air-abraded Olympia disks were tin plated prior to luting with Panavia EX. Electrolytically etched Rexillium III specim

Recent advances in three-dimensional nanoflower-based membrane engineering for water and wastewater treatment: from fundamental mechanisms to scale-up.

Three-dimensional (3D) nanoflower (NF)-based membranes have recently emerged as a promising platform for advanced water and wastewater treatment owing to their hierarchical architectures, high surface-to-volume ratio, tunable physicochemical properties, and multifunctional performance. Unlike conventional nanomaterials, NF structures provide abundant exposed reactive sites, interconnected transport pathways, and enhanced interfacial interactions, enabling simultaneous improvements in adsorption, separation, catalytic activity, hydrophilicity, antifouling behavior, and contaminant selectivity.

French Innovations in Lower Limb arthroplasty that have Become "Gold Standards": an overview.

This paper aims at reviewing some of the major French innovations in lower limb arthroplasty. This achievement could happen only through substantial efforts from pioneers that understood they had to adhere to the general principles of research through well designed studies, robust evaluation tools, and long-term follow-up studies. One of the major inventions in total hip arthroplasty (THA) was dual mobility cups (DMC). The concept of DMC has clearly demonstrated clinical efficiency in the prevention and treatment of postoperative dislocation both in primary and revision THAs. Another landmark

The Role of Polyhydroxyalkanoates in Veterinary Medicine: Biosynthesis, Material Modifications and Clinical Applications.

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are a structurally diverse family of microbially synthesised, biodegradable polyesters that accumulate as intracellular carbon and energy reserves under conditions of nutrient imbalance. Their combination of adjustable mechanical performance with controlled hydrolytic and enzymatic degradation, and non-toxic degradation intermediates (ex. D-3-hydroxybutyrate) has made them a longstanding candidate biomaterial for human tissue engineering, drug delivery, and resorbable implants. Comparatively, their application in veterinary medicine remains an emerging and fragment

Evaluation of foreign bodies in the maxillofacial region with cone beam computed tomography and ultrasonography: an ex vivo study.

BACKGROUND: When foreign bodies in the human body are not diagnosed (detected), it can cause various inflammatory reactions. Therefore, they should be detected and removed immediately. Taking a detailed patient history, performing a clinical examination, and selecting the appropriate imaging method are important for detection. The location, structure, and size of the foreign body affect the choice of radiography technique. This study aims to compare the detectability, measurement accuracy, and acoustic behaviors of various foreign bodies in the maxillofacial region using Cone Beam Computed Tom

High-Frequency Sonication as an Unconventional Solution to Control Fluid Loss in Water-Based Drilling Muds.

Conventional methods of mitigating fluid loss in drilling operations rely heavily on chemical additives and nanoparticles, which may alter mud properties and introduce environmental and cost challenges. While the technique of ultrasonication is widely used in the oil and gas industry, especially for mixing these additives and nanoparticles into mud samples, the direct impact of ultrasonication of the base drilling mud sample alone on fluid loss behavior has been largely overlooked. This study investigates the effectiveness of ultrasonication in modifying the filtrate loss characteristics of wa

Comparison of the efficacy of bone substitutes versus autografts in aseptic non-union of the tibia. Retrospective study of 60 patients.

BACKGROUND: Reconstruction of segmental bone loss of the limbs is a surgical challenge, particularly regarding the reconstruction strategy and choice of bone graft. Several bone reconstruction techniques have been validated, but the gold standard remains bone autograft. However, in certain situations, the availability or volume of bone autograft may be insufficient. The use of bone substitutes as a replacement is debated in the treatment of segmental non-union of the tibia, and little is known about bone substitute in such circumstances. Therefore we performed a retrospective study aiming: 1)

Outcomes following total ankle total talus replacement: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Prosthetic substitution of the talus presents a significant challenge to the foot and ankle surgeon. The shear and compressive forces on the talus and its tenuous blood supply lead to high rates of avascular necrosis and eventual talar collapse. The purpose of this systematic review is to evaluate whether total ankle total talus replacement (TATTR) leads to improved clinical and radiographic outcomes with appropriate safety metrics in patients with a history of avascular necrosis or significant trauma. METHODS: We searched the concepts of talus, prosthesis, and arthroplasty in MED

Mid-term outcomes of total hip arthroplasty in patients younger than 30 years.

INTRODUCTION: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) has predominantly been utilized to treat older patients with primary osteoarthritis. However, recent improvements in surgical technique and implant materials have increased implant longevity, making THA a viable option for younger patients (< 30 years old). While trend analyses indicate an expanding utilization of THA in younger patients with non-OA diagnoses, current data on mid- and long-term THA outcomes in this population are limited. This study aims to describe the demographics, perioperative data, and implant survivorship of patients younger tha
