OBJECTIVES: The aim of this retrospective study is to describe the importance of serum creatinine levels for the long-term renal outcome in cases of posterior urethral valve.
METHODS: Records of 94 patients who underwent cystoscopic valve ablation were evaluated retrospectively. Demographic variables, radiologic findings, and serum creatinine levels were recorded. Patients were grouped according to the serum creatinine levels in the first month of life. Twenty-four patients' serum creatinine levels were found to be above 1 mg/dL in group 1 and ≤1 mg/dL in 70 patients in group 2.

INTRODUCTION: Endoscopic management of posterior urethral valves and congenital ureteroceles is the current standard to relieve the obstruction. While the most commonly used techniques involve cystoscopic incision with cold knife or electrosurgery, an alternative is to ablate the obstructive tissue with laser energy. Inflammatory pseudotumor of the urinary bladder is a rare reactive proliferation with a clinical presentation similar to malignant neoplasms. We present the case of a 35-year-old woman who presented with left lower quadrant pain and gross hematuria. A diagnosis of cystitis glandularis was initially considered; however, the symptoms did not resolve following transurethral resection. Subsequently, a partial cystectomy was performed after malignancy was excluded based on intraoperative frozen sections. Further histopathological evaluation confirmed the diagnosis of inflammatory pseudotumor.

We utilized physician-coded diagnoses and chart reviews to estimate the incidence of interstitial cystitis (IC) in women. A computer search of the Kaiser Permanente database was performed to identify newly coded diagnoses of IC (ICD-9 code 595.1) between May 2002 and May 2005. Chart reviews were performed and patient demographics, diagnosing physicians, and symptom characteristics were recorded. The IC incidence rate was 15 per 100,000 women per year. PURPOSE: To evaluate the cause and management of paraurethral abscess developing after injection of a mixture of hyaluronic acid and dextranomer (Zuidex) for treating stress urinary incontinence.
PATIENTS AND METHOD: A total of 127 women having undergone midurethral Zuidex injection and 34 women after endoscopically guided Deflux injection into the tissue around the bladder neck were followed up 1 to 24 months after the intervention. The authors present a case of prenatal diagnosis of cloacal anomaly, characterized by the presence of oligohydramnios and cystic pelvic mass with changing features during observation. Postnatal study confirmed the presence of a recto-cloacal fistula, with a high confluence of the urinary, genital and intestinal systems. A 46-year-old woman presented with a hypogastric mass. The preoperative diagnosis was a malignant ovarian tumor involving multiple organs, including the urinary bladder. Surgical exploration was performed with wide resection of the right ovary and uterus, including the affected ileum, sigmoid colon, and omentum. An intraoperative histopathological examination of the paravesical tissue revealed abdominal actinomycosis. Consequently, bladder resection was not done. The cause of abdominal actinomycosis in this patient was probably due to implantation of an intrauterine device 3 years previously.

Bladder hemangioma is a rare benign tumor occurring in any age group. We report the case of a 76-year-old woman having a bladder hemangioma. On cystoscopic examination no typical features of the bladder hemangioma were found. Biopsy of the lesion revealed a cavernous hemangioma. A partial cystectomy was performed for the control of macroscopic hematuria.
