Outcomes Following Multilevel Cervical Disc Arthroplasty in the Young Active Population.

BACKGROUND: Cervical radiculopathy is a common disorder that portends significant morbidity. The presence of radiculopathy can have a debilitating effect on patients as well as a significant economic impact. Active duty military patients with increased physical occupational demands can be significantly impacted by cervical disease. The resulting disability can have a strong negative impact on operational readiness. Several studies have demonstrated comparably good functional outcomes between cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) and anterior cervical discectomy and fusion for single-level disease.

Incidence and morbidity of concomitant spine fractures in combat-related amputees.

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: High-energy blasts are the most frequent cause of combat-related amputations in Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom (OIF/OEF). The nondiscriminating effects of this mechanism often result in both appendicular and axial skeletal injuries. Despite this recognized coincident injury pattern, the incidence and consequence of spine fractures in trauma-related combat amputees are unknown. PURPOSE: This study sought to determine the incidence and morbidity of the associated spine fractures on patients with traumatic lower extremity amputation sustained during OIF/OEF. STUDY DES

Periacetabular osteotomy through a modified ollier transtrochanteric approach for treatment of painful dysplastic hips.

BACKGROUND: Elimination of abnormally high joint-loading resulting in excessive contact stresses may prevent or reduce the onset of osteoarthrosis in a dysplastic hip. A number of periacetabular osteotomies have been shown to be effective in restoring normal hip-joint mechanics. We treat acetabular dysplasia with a periacetabular osteotomy performed through a modified Ollier transtrochanteric approach. In this report, we describe the operative technique and the clinical and radiographic results. METHODS: Thirty-six patients (thirty-eight hips) in whom a painful dysplastic hip had been treated

Cervical Disc Arthroplasty for the Treatment of Noncontiguous Cervical Degenerative Disc Disease: Results of Mid- to Long-Term Follow-up.

OBJECTIVE: The long-term results of cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) for noncontiguous cervical degenerative disc disease (CDDD) are still uncertain. Moreover, it is unclear whether CDA delays or avoids the degeneration of the intermediate segment (IS), leading to controversy in the field. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the mid- to long-term clinical and radiographic outcomes of CDA in treating noncontiguous CDDD and to explore whether the IS degenerated faster after CDA than other non-surgically treated adjacent segments. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed patients with noncont

Terrible triad injury of the elbow: A PROCESS-compliant surgical case series from Eastern Morocco.

INTRODUCTION: The terrible triad of the elbow (TTE) is a lesion associating a dislocation of the elbow, a fracture of the radial head, and a fracture of the coronoid process, with a high potential of complication. The treatment is based on the restoration of bone lesions and external capsular ligament repair. The systematic repair of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) is still debated in the literature. The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical and functional results of the surgical treatment in a real-world series from Easter Morocco. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This was a retrospective

The survivorship and factors affecting the outcome of the use of spring plates in multifragmentary posterior wall acetabular fractures at a single academic institution.

BACKGROUND: Multifragmentary posterior wall fractures are not uncommon after posterior hip fracture-dislocation. They can be elementary but are commonly associated with transverse acetabular fractures. Specific technical challenges are encountered when managing these fracture patterns. The loss of the posterior landmarks due to the associated comminution may render achieving an anatomical reduction and stable fixation difficult. The application of spring plates can provide a good buttress with multiple anchor points and creates a new cortex for the bridging plate. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: -To as
