Human development of grip force modulation relating to cyclic movement-induced inertial loads.

The present study examines the development of grip force modulation relating to self-induced loads during repetitive vertical arm movements … ely cyclic self-induced inertial loads of hand-held objects when the object properties are known by proprioception. The timing, which is possibly related to cerebellar functions, is, to some extent, developed earlier than the gain control, which may be associated with cortical functions.

Focal Muscular Vibration During Intensive Rehabilitation in the Treatment of Spasticity After a Severe Acquired Brain Injury: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: Spasticity significantly impairs functional recovery after severe acquired brain injury. Current management methods predominantly rely on pharmacological interventions, which can cause substantial side effects or require invasive medical procedures in refractory cases. Focal muscle vibration, a noninvasive technique that applies mechanical vibrations to muscle-tendon units and alters spinal and cortical excitability via proprioceptive pathways, has been effective in reducing spasticity in subjects with stroke. However, there is limited data to support focal muscle vibration as a vi

Efficacy of inspiratory muscle training on weaning success in mechanically ventilated ICU patients: a systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Inspiratory muscle training (IMT) has been proposed as a strategy to mitigate ventilator-induced diaphragmatic dysfunction in mechanically ventilated intensive care unit (ICU) patients. However, its comparative effectiveness across different training intensities and impact on weaning success remain uncertain. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of intima-media thickness (IMT) on weaning success, maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP), and rapid shallow breathing index (RSBI) in mechanically ventilated adult intensive care unit (ICU) patients. METHODS: This systematic review followed th

Effects of Vibro-Stimulation Ankle Bracing on Tactile Sensation and Center of Pressure Dynamics in Individuals with Chronic Ankle Instability: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Background/Objectives: Chronic ankle instability (CAI) is a common sequela of lateral ankle sprain and is characterized by recurrent episodes of giving way, sensorimotor deficits, impaired postural control, and diminished functional performance. While exercise-based rehabilitation, including neuromuscular training and proprioceptive exercises, remains the gold standard for managing CAI, patients often require additional support during daily activities. Orthotic interventions predominantly address mechanical instability, yet there is a clinical gap in providing integrated solutions that simulta

Priming iTBS for lower limb rehabilitation after stroke: Protocol for a randomized controlled trial on efficacy and neuroplasticity.

INTRODUCTION: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is widely applied in treating motor dysfunction after stroke. Building on metaplasticity principle, continuous theta burst stimulation (cTBS) preconditioning enhances subsequent excitatory effects of intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS). This phenomenon is well-established for upper limbs in healthy populations, yet its application to the lower limbs remains underexplored, especially in stroke survivors. Guided by "central-peripheral-central" theory, this protocol investigates the synergistic effects of cTBS-preconditione

The effects of Tai Chi Chuan combined with unstable resistance training on knee muscle strength and dynamic balance in female college students: a randomized controlled study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Insufficient physical activity and prolonged sedentary behavior among college students are associated with reduced lower-limb muscle strength, impaired dynamic balance, and increased susceptibility to sports-related knee injury. Female college students may be especially vulnerable because of sex-specific neuromuscular and biomechanical characteristics. Tai Chi Chuan may improve proprioceptive control and coordinated knee muscle activation, whereas unstable resistance training may rapidly enhance strength and neuromuscular stabilization. Whether a combined programme can produce comp

Effectiveness of a fully immersive virtual reality-based therapeutic exercise programme with altered visual feedback in patients with fibromyalgia: A study protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain, fatigue, and diverse physical and psychological symptoms that significantly impair daily functioning. Latest guidelines advocate for a comprehensive approach to FM management, emphasizing patient education, therapeutic exercise, pharmacological treatments, and psychotherapy. Although exercise remains the primary non-pharmacological strategy supported by robust evidence, its clinical implementation faces several limitations, including poor adherence, fear of movement, pain catastrophizing and proprioceptive deficits. Bilateral gamma knife radiosurgery in severe essential tremor: a prospective trial.

In patients with medically refractory essential tremor, unilateral Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKS) of the Ventral Intermedius Thalamic nucleus (VIM) is known to improve contralateral tremor with a good safety. Safety of staged bilateral GKS of the VIM has never been strictly evaluated. Our aim was to determine whether staged bilateral VIM-GKS is safe and effective and would avoid side effects, due to bilaterality of the surgery, while providing improvement of tremor impairment. We conducted a prospective, single-arm, phase 2 trial of second-side GKS of the VIM in 33 patients with severe essenti

Pathogenic IgG from long COVID patients with neurological sequelae triggers sensitive but not cognitive impairments upon transfer into mice.

Approximately 30% of long COVID patients still experience neurological symptoms (brain fog, pain, chronic fatigue) more than 4 months after the onset of COVID-19. This condition, known as 'neurological long COVID', remains poorly understood and might be explained by a persisting autoimmune response against nervous-derived self-antigens. The aim of this study is to determine whether IgG autoantibodies from long COVID patients with neurological sequelae can bind to central or peripheral nervous system epitopes and trigger neuropsychiatric symptoms upon passive transfer into mice, thereby mirrori
