BACKGROUND: Fall prevention programs have been proven effective in reducing falls and fall-related injuries in specific target groups and settings. However, implementing these programs on a larger scale often requires adjustments for feasibility. This study assessed the effectiveness of the nationally implemented In Balance fall prevention intervention compared to usual care in community-dwelling older adults. METHODS: In this single-blinded randomized controlled trial, 264 non- and pre-frail adults of 65 years or older with an increased fall risk were recruited from eleven centers. The interv

OBJECTIVES: Use of medications defined as fall risk increasing drugs (FRIDs) have increased in recent years mainly due to antihypertensives, antidepressants, and anticonvulsants. FRIDs and fall injury risk is largely unknown. This study aims to determine if FRIDs use/count, separately considering antihypertensive and other FRIDs use, is associated with non-injurious falls/fall injuries.
STUDY DESIGN: We analyzed data from 1273 community-dwelling older Black and White adults in the Health, Aging, and Body Composition Study, a longitudinal cohort (2007-08 visit; 2 years of follow-up; median age

Fall injury statistics are scarce in low- and middle-income countries like Nepal. This study examines fall-related injuries and associated risk factors to address critical gaps in injury epidemiology and prevention. Data was collected from 18 August to 17 September 2023 from the emergency and inpatient departments of seven hospitals in Nepal, one from each province. A structured questionnaire, based on the WHO Guidelines, was used for data collection from patients or caregivers. Among 1,175 injury patients, 38.6% sustained nonfatal fall injuries. Males comprised 58.9% of cases. Most falls (93.

BACKGROUND: Blunt adrenal gland injuries are considered uncommon. Moreover, the factors associated with the mechanisms of the injury following blunt trauma are unclear. In this study, we determined the factors associated with blunt adrenal gland injury (BAGI).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 315 patients with blunt abdominal trauma were admitted to our institution during a 12-year period. After excluding 26 patients who were under 18 years old and 27 patients who were in cardiopulmonary arrest on arrival, 262 eligible patients were retrospectively reviewed. Treatment of brachial artery injuries in children, particularly those resulting from supracondylar humeral fractures, is controversial when distal pulses are absent yet the hand remains warm and pink. This article presents a retrospective study of eight children, ages 3 to 13, who underwent brachial arterial exploration because of absent distal pulses following arm trauma. Absent pulses indicate diminished blood flow, and in all eight cases brachial artery obstruction or severance was confirmed at surgery. In four of the children, who presented with cold, devascularized hands as a result of po

UNLABELLED: The purpose of this study was to describe antecedents and characteristics of same level fall injuries. Fall incidents and costs were compiled from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and other sources from 2006-2010. This study indicated that over 29% of 'fall on same level' injuries resulted in 31 or more workdays lost. The major source of injury was 'floors, walkways or ground surfaces', and the most affected body parts were the lower extremities and the trunk. With regard to gender and age, female workers had the highest risk of falls, while advancing age coincided with an increase i
