This study aims to prepare (99m)Technetium Pheophorbide-a ((99m)Tc-PH-A) complex and evaluate its efficiency as an infection imaging agent. INTRODUCTION: To advance the science and clinical application of stem cell therapy, the availability of a highly sensitive, quantitative and translational method for tracking stem cells would be invaluable. Because hematopoetic stem cells express high levels of the cytosolic enzyme aldehyde dehydrogenase-1A1 (ALDH1), we sought to develop an agent that is specific to ALDH1 and thus to cells expressing the enzyme. The design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of a series of epothilone analogues with novel side chains equipped with an amino group are described. Their design facilitates potential conjugation to selective drug delivery systems such as antibodies. Their synthesis proceeded efficiently via Stille coupling of a readily available vinyl iodide and heterocyclic stannanes. Cytotoxicity studies and tubulin binding assays revealed two of these analogues to be more potent than epothilones A-D and the anticancer agent ixabepilone, currently in clinical use.

BACKGROUND: Increasing age of breast cancer patients was reported to cause not only failure of sentinel lymph node (SLN) identification but also false negative results.
METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted of breast cancer patients who underwent sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) using small-sized technetium-99m-labeled tin colloid (particle size: 200-400 nm in diameter). A comparison between 82 patients who were less than 60 years and 40 patients who were > or =60 years of age was performed to evaluate the efficacy of SLNB using the small-sized tin colloid in older patients.

We have studied 26 patients (32-77 years old, 16 females) with suspicion of joint arthroplasty infection: 11 total hip replacements, 12 total knee replacements and 3 osteosinthesys. A bone scintigraphy with MDP-99mTc, a scintigraphy with HMPAO-WBC and a scintigraphy with 99mTc-stannous colloid were made in all patients. The regioselectivity of Pd-catalyzed malonate additions and arylations to cycloalkenyl esters can be predicted by completing a stereochemical analysis of the Pd-pi-allyl complex. The Pd-catalyzed malonate additions which have the greatest degree of regioselectivity are in which substituents have a steric influence in blocking the incoming nucleophile. Cyclopentenyl substrates displayed lower regioselectivity than the cyclohexyl counterparts presumably due to increased planarity of the system.
