Personnel in Isolated, Confined, and Extreme (ICE) environments face unique psychological stressors that can compromise performance, safety, and mission success. Traditional psychological monitoring approaches, predominantly retrospective questionnaires and clinical interviews, may inadequately capture the dynamic nature of psychological adaptation in these demanding contexts. This mini-review examines the potential role of Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) as part of a comprehensive approach to psychological monitoring in ICE environments. We review current monitoring practices across spa

The Two-Track Model of Bereavement (TTMB) and the Dual Process Model of Coping with Bereavement (DPM) are two central models in the field of thanatology, offering theoretical frameworks for understanding how individuals cope with loss. While the two models share several fundamental principles - most notably the conceptualization of grief as a bidimensional process involving the interplay between mourning and functional adaptation to life after loss - they differ in their components, underlying theoretical assumptions, and clinical emphases, yielding complementary strengths that together can en

BACKGROUND: Medical emergency situations can be highly distressing for patients and potentially lead to the development of psychological disorders. While psychological care and interventions are of obvious necessity to assist patients when coping with emergency situations, research regarding appropriate psychological care of prehospital and clinical emergency patients is limited. This scoping review provides an overview of the current state of research in emergency medicine with particular focus on communication strategies as well as psychological interventions. The aim is to present an overvi

BACKGROUND: This study was conducted within the framework of Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems theory and Erikson's Psychosocial theory. The study of age and generational differences in mental resilience could reveal which age groups are more vulnerable to stress. Generational differences in mental resilience are expected because of maturation in human development and accumulation of social experience.
METHODS: The participants were representatives of three generations - Generation Z, Generation Y, and Generation X. From 616 to 1053 participants were studied in Bulgaria with each of five sc

BACKGROUND: It is commonly mentioned that psychological resilience is a significant protective factor in the context of sports injuries, nevertheless, the existing evidence is inconsistent, especially in terms of its changing effectiveness when moving along the injury spectrum (between risk exposure and post-injury rehabilitation).
OBJECTIVE: This systematic review aimed to investigate the protective effect of resilience on sports injury outcomes in athletes and explore variations in this effect across different phases of the injury timeline.
METHODS: In accordance with the PRISMA 2020 guide

BACKGROUND: Despite the growing body of literature suggesting that psychosocial factors contribute to cancer susceptibility, the existing evidence remains heterogeneous, and it is unclear which domains show the most consistent associations. Systematically mapping this literature helps inform the integration of psychosocial factors into cancer risk assessment and management frameworks, alongside behavioural risk factors.
METHODS: To synthesise existing evidence on psychosocial factors associated with cancer onset, we conducted an umbrella review within the EU-funded iBeChange project (ID:10113

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Psychological practices have emerged as promising treatments for coping with chronic pain (CP) as a psychological resilience (PR) enhancer mechanism. These practices contain cognitive, behavioral and emotional modulation of pain. In this regard, classical cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and current trends in CBT, including acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness-based practices may demonstrate significant improvements in pain perception, physical functioning, catastrophic beliefs and fear-avoidance behaviors among patients with CP. However, understanding the neu

This review aims to explore the intricate relationship among epigenetic mechanisms, stress, and affective disorders, focusing on how early life experiences and coping mechanisms contribute to susceptibility to mood disorders. Epigenetic factors play a crucial role in regulating gene expression without altering the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) sequence, and recent research has revealed associations between epigenetic changes and maladaptive responses to stress or psychiatric disorders. A scoping review of 33 studies employing the PRISMA-S (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Met

Early life adversity (ELA) heightens the risk for anxiety disorders (which are characterized by heightened fear and avoidance behaviors), with females being twice as likely as males to develop pathology. Pavlovian fear conditioning tasks have been used to study possible mechanisms supporting endophenotypes of pathology. Identification of sex and ELA selective effects on the nature of behavioral responding in these paradigms may provide a unique window into coping strategies in response to learned fear to guide more mechanistic studies. The goals of this study were two-fold; First, to test if m

Due to pre-, peri- and post-migratory stress factors, refugees often experience higher levels of psychological stress than the general population. Post-traumatic stress disorder, in particular, has an increased prevalence in the refugee population. However, living conditions in the early post-migratory phase are characterized by many challenges. In the present qualitative study, 14 refugees with symptoms of PTSD from temporary accommodations in Germany were interviewed in semi-structured interviews about their individual experiences of the impact of their trauma sequelae symptoms on their curr

INTRODUCTION: Family caregivers of cancer patients were often referred to the 'forgotten patients', yet little researches have been conducted on their mental health. Rumination might put family caregivers at risk for psychological distress during the caregiving, such as stress and anxiety. The aim of the present study was to explore the relationship between rumination, stress and anxiety among family caregivers of breast cancer patients in China and examine the mediating role of avoidant coping in this relationship.
METHODS: Face-to-face questionnaire interviews were conducted with a sample o

BACKGROUND: Many people experience psychological trauma during their lifetime, often negatively affecting their mental and physical health. Post-traumatic growth is a positive psychological change that may occur in an individual after having processed and coped with trauma. This journey, however, has not been studied enough.
AIM: The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore people's experience of suffering psychological trauma, the personal effects of the trauma and the transition from trauma to post-traumatic growth.
METHODS: A purposeful sample of seven women and five men, age

Emotion regulation has been examined extensively with regard to important outcomes, including psychological and physical health. However, the literature includes many different emotion regulation strategies but little examination of how they relate to one another, making it difficult to interpret and synthesize findings. The goal of this meta-analysis was to examine the underlying structure of common emotion regulation strategies (i.e., acceptance, behavioral avoidance, distraction, experiential avoidance, expressive suppression, mindfulness, problem solving, reappraisal, rumination, worry), a

Local caregivers such as psychiatric service providers, mental health welfare workers, and nursing-care staff have a major role to play in the long-term support of survivors of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake of March 11th, 2011. Alcohol-related problems often cause various problems mentally, physically, economically, and socially. Alcoholics tend to show violent behavior, deny their own alcoholism, cause codependency in significant others, and occasionally relapse. Local caregivers bear the burden of caring for them and feel responsible for their relapse. This leads to exhaustion and disco

The goal of this review is to discuss the psychiatric aspects of pain in cancer patients from a biopsychosocial approach. Pain in cancer patients is considered as a complex reaction causing severe suffering and involves many psychological aspects. It has many dimensions such as personality, affect, cognition and social relations. The pain experience may also be influenced by some psychological factors such as anxiety, depression and the meaning of pain. Therefore, a successful management of cancer pain requires a multidisciplinary approach. Since cancer pain is generally treated medically, the

AIM: This paper is a report of a concept analysis to define and describe self-mutilation.
BACKGROUND: Although there has been an increased interest in self-mutilation, as evidenced by recent publication of opinion literature, anecdotal reports and a few clinical studies, the concept has not been well developed to guide nursing research and interventions.
METHOD: Definitions and uses of self-mutilation were obtained in a comprehensive review of the health, psychology and education literature up to April 2007 to identify the defining attributes, antecedents and consequences. Walker and Avant's

Recurrent psychosomatic stress has been popularly thought to cause permanent hypertension by repeated reactive blood pressure elevations. These are considered by some to be caused by various mechanisms, including an increased sympathetic outflow and a decreased parasympathetic inhibition, or possibly an inborn functional abnormality in the walls of the resistance vessels, which becomes a structural abnormality as a result of the elevated pressure. Recent work, however, has questioned some of these concepts. Many of the assumptions in the past concerning the ill-effects of elevated blood pressu

The McMaster Model of Family Functioning was used to compare women with eating disorders with a normal comparison group. The anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa groups showed similar perceived family pathologies but bulimics with no history of anorexia showed a pattern of family interaction that was more severely 'Требует внимания' than that of the other clinical groups. The McMaster Model could be a useful tool in clinical assessment and in planning therapy in this particular area.
