Design and application of an ultrasensitive and selective tobromycin electrochemiluminescence aptasensor using MXene /Ni/Sm-LDH-based nanocomposite.

Using a chemiluminescence reaction between luminol and H2O2 in basic solution, an ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) aptasensor was developed for the determination of tobramycin (TOB), as an aminoglycoside antibiotic. Ti3C2/Ni/Sm-LDH-based nanocomposite effectively catalyzes the oxidation of luminol and decomposition of H2O2, leading to the formation of different reactive oxygen species (ROSs), thus amplifying the ECL signal intensity of luminol, which can be used for the determination of TOB concentration. To evaluate the performance of the electrochemiluminescence aptasensor and s

Ultrasensitive detection of chlortetracycline in animal-origin food using molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor based on SnS2/ZnCo-MOF and AuNPs.

The chlortetracycline (CTC) residue in food poses a threat to human health. Therefore, developing sensitive, convenient and selective analytical methods for CTC detection is crucial. This study innovatively uses tin disulfide/bimetallic organic framework (SnS2/ZnCo-MOF) nanocomposites in conjunction with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to co-modify a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Further, a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-based electrochemical sensing platform Au-MIP/SnS2/ZnCo-MOF/Au/GCE (AZG) was fabricated for selective CTC detection. SnS2/ZnCo-MOF enhanced the stability and surface area of

Cheilitis Associated with a Novel Herpesvirus in Two Panther Chameleons (Furcifer pardalis).

Intracellular epidermal inclusions were detected within histological sections of skin biopsies from two panther chameleons (Furcifer pardalis) with chronic cheilitis. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) confirmed the abundant presence of icosahedral intracytoplasmic and intranuclear viral particles in infected keratinocytes, with an average diameter of 120-125 nm, consistent with herpesviruses (HVs). TEM also revealed the presence of virions in intercellular spaces and keratinocyte nuclei and features suggestive of capsid assembly, nuclear egress with primary envelopment and anterograde tra

Onset of Appearance and Potential Significance of Telocytes in the Developing Fetal Lung.

CD34, vimentin, and vascular endothelial growth factor immunohistochemical analysis and electron microscopic tools were employed to record the initial appearance of telocytes (TCs) and stage-by-stage variations in TC localizations in the developing rabbit lung. TCs could not be identified in the primitive embryonic lung until day 18 of gestation. In the pseudoglandular lung, CD34+ TCs had been recorded under the cartilage of the main bronchus, in the wall of large-sized pulmonary vessels and large epithelial tubes. In the canalicular phase, TCs could be demonstrated in the smooth muscle layer

Fracture toughening of peritubular microstructure in biological porous dentine.

Fracture behavior of biological porous dentine is important to the success of dental restoration. The role of peritubular dentine (PTD) microstructure on the fracture properties of human dentine is investigated by analysis of its crack tip shielding effect on microcracks and macrocracks. The evolution of microcracks around the dentine tubules (DTs) and the growth of macrocracks in the dentine are experimentally observed by scanning electron microscope. Two cases of an individual PTD&DT penetrating the microcrack tip and locating ahead of the microcrack tip are discussed. The effects of multipl

UV-light effects on cytochrome c modulated by the aggregation state of phenothiazines.

The present study shows the factors that modulate the photodamage promoted by phenothiazines. Cytochrome c was irradiated with UV light for 120 min, over a pH range from 4.0 to 8.0, in the absence and in the presence of different concentrations of thioridazine (TR) and fluphenazine (FP). In the absence of phenothiazines, the maximal rate of a Soret band blue shift (nm/min) from 409 to 406 nm was obtained at pH 4.0 (0.028 nm/min). The presence of phenothiazines at the concentration range 10-25 µmol/L amplified and accelerated a cytochrome c blue shift (409 to 405 nm, at a rate = 0.041 nm/min).

Novel endogenous type D retroviral particles expressed at high levels in a SCID mouse thymic lymphoma.

A xenograft model of the human disease Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) was investigated with severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) mice. Transplantation of human LCH biopsy material into SCID mice resulted in the generation of mouse tumors resembling lymphomas. A thymoma cell line (ThyE1M6) was generated from one of these mice and found to display significant levels of Mg2+-dependent reverse transcriptase activity. Electron microscopy revealed particles with type D retroviral morphology budding from ThyE1M6 cells at a high frequency, whereas control cultures were negative. Reverse transc

Dual mechanism of inhibition of rat liver uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase activity by ferrous iron: its potential role in the genesis of porphyria cutanea tarda.

Hepatic iron overload amplifies the uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase enzyme defect in human porphyria cutanea tarda. To understand its mechanism, we studied the effects of iron on the enzyme activity from rat liver cytosol. Enzyme activity was inhibited about 50% by 0.10 mM Fe2+ or by 0.16 mM Zn2+ directly regardless of whether the cations were added immediately, or were first preincubated for 2 h at 37 degrees C in the absence or presence of oxygen. Cysteine (6.7 mM) protected the enzyme from inhibition by Fe2+ under strictly anaerobic preincubation conditions; cysteine also protected enzyme in

Interaction of inflammatory cells and oral microorganisms. IV. In vitro release of lysosomal constituents from polymorphonuclear leukocytes exposed to supragingival and subgingival bacterial plaque.

The deposition of bacterial plaques on tooth surfaces appears to be responsible for the initiation and progression of periodontal disease. In this study, human peripheral blood polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) actively released lysosomal constituents upon in vitro exposure to either viable or irradiated, supragingival or subgingival dental plaque. Plaques were obtained from the PMN donors (autologous plaque) or from pooled samples (homologous plaque) secured from patients with periodontal lesions. Fresh sera from PMN donors amplified the release reactions to supragingival and subgingival pl

SnSe/SnO2 Heterojunction-Based Single-Sensor Virtual Electronic Nose with Low Reaction Barrier for Trace Identification of Volatile Sulfur Compounds toward Illicit Methamphetamine Trafficking Traceability.

Illicit methamphetamine (MA, ice) trafficking poses a severe global threat to public security, while non-contact on-site detection of MA remains a grand challenge due to its ultra-low saturated vapor pressure at room temperature (25 °C). Volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs), including hydrogen sulfide (H2S), methanethiol (CH3SH), and dimethyl sulfide (C2H6S, DMS), are stable characteristic markers released throughout the entire MA production, purification, storage, and transportation chain. Herein, we develop a single-sensor virtual electronic nose based on SnSe/SnO2 p-n heterojunction for precise

Novel mutations in ETFDH gene in Chinese patients with riboflavin-responsive multiple acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency.

BACKGROUND: Multiple acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (MADD, OMIM 231680) or glutaric aciduria type II (GAII) is an inherited autosomal recessive disease affecting fatty acid, amino acid and choline metabolism, due to mutations in one of three genes namely, electron transfer flavoprotein alpha-subunit, ETFA (OMIM 608053), electron transfer flavoprotein beta-subunit, ETFB (OMIM 130410) and electron transfer flavoprotein dehydrogenase, ETFDH (OMIM 231675). Some MADD patients are responsive to riboflavin treatment with an excellent prognosis. Recently, mutations in ETFDH were found to be respons

A Segmental 2D Readout Board Manufactured in Printed Circuit Board Technology for Gas Electron Multiplier Detectors.

The Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) was introduced by Fabio Sauli in 1997. This technology is broadly used in current and planned High-Energy Physics (HEP) experiments. One of the key components of these detectors is a readout board, which collects charges amplified by GEM foils and transfers them to readout electronics. The commonly used Cartesian XY readout boards are manufactured from the same type of polyamide film used to produce the GEM foils. The manufacturing process utilizes a deep polyimide etching, similar to the Micro Chemical Vias (MCV) etching process, which is protected by patent.

Ferroptosis in e-cigarette aerosol-associated respiratory injury.

E-cigarette use has increased substantially, particularly among adolescents and young adults, yet its long-term respiratory effects remain incompletely understood. E-cigarette aerosol contains biologically active constituents, including nicotine, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, flavoring chemicals, aldehydes, metals, particles, and reactive oxygen species, which may disrupt respiratory epithelial homeostasis. This review synthesizes experimental, preclinical, and human-relevant evidence linking e-cigarette aerosol exposure to respiratory epithelial injury, with emphasis on ferroptosis-re

Harnessing light and ultrasonic vibration: efficient amphiphilic phthalocyanine-based sensitizers for combined sono-photodynamic therapy of breast cancer.

The heterogeneity and global burden of breast cancer necessitate novel therapeutic strategies to circumvent resistance and mitigate systemic toxicity. Amphiphilic phthalocyanines have emerged as highly effective photosensitizers in photodynamic therapy, uniquely balancing aqueous solubility with lipid membrane affinity to overcome traditional aggregation quenching. By integrating structural features that promote selective subcellular accumulation, these amphiphilic phthalocyanine-based sensitizers significantly amplify targeted oxidative stress when exposed to combined light and ultrasonic sti

Nanostructured materials: shaping the future of electrochemical sensors for DNA methylation detection.

DNA methylation is a key epigenetic modification regulating gene expression without altering the DNA sequence, and its aberrant patterns serve as important biomarkers for cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Electrochemical biosensors have emerged as powerful platforms for site-specific methylation analysis due to their high sensitivity, simplicity, low cost, and compatibility with miniaturized devices. More importantly, electrochemical interfaces enable direct coupling between molecular recognition and nanoscale signal amplification, allowing detection limits to be pushed beyond intrinsic elec

Flexible Strain Sensor Based on TPU/CNTs/rGO Conductive Membrane with Dual-Microcrack Structure for High-Performance Wearable Sensing.

Flexible strain sensors are crucial for wearable electronics and human-machine interaction, yet simultaneously achieving high sensitivity and a broad working range remains challenging. Here, a high-performance strain sensor is developed by integrating carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) hybrid conductive networks with electrospun thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) nanofibers, followed by pre-stretching to engineer a dual-microcrack architecture. The synergistic interplay between 1D CNTs and 2D rGO stabilizes conductive pathways, while strain-regulated microcrack evolution amplif
