This study investigates the solvent-modulated supramolecular chirality and assembly kinetics of two naphthalimide structural isomers, 18NG and 23NG, designed from glutamide derivatives linked to 1,8- and 2,3-naphthalic anhydrides, respectively. Reaction of aromatic/heterocyclic sulfonamides containing a free amino group with triflic anhydride afforded compounds possessing trifluoromethanesulfonamido moieties in their molecule. The Zn(II) and Cu(II) complexes of these new sulfonamides were prepared and characterized by standard procedures (elemental analysis, spectroscopic, magnetic, thermogravimetric and conductimetric measurements). The new derivatives showed good inhibitory activity against three isozymes of carbonic anhydrase (CA), i.e., CA I, II and IV.

Biotinyl-m-[125I]iodoanilide (BIA) was synthesized by coupling biotin to m-[125I]iodoaniline via a mixed anhydride reaction. m-[125I]Iodoaniline was produced from the tin precursor, which was prepared using a palladium catalyzed reaction of hexabutylditin with m-bromoaniline. The radioiodinated BIA derivative is characterized by a stable amide and/or intact ureido group on the biotin molecule; it may thus be a useful carrier for targeting radionuclides to avidin-conjugated antibodies previously localized on tumors.

Linear (thio)carbamates are important molecules in agrochemical and pharmaceutical contexts. However, their synthesis typically involves the use of toxic reagents. Here, we present a benign method to synthesize O-aryl carbamates starting from phenols, primary amines, carbon dioxide and a peptide coupling reagent propanephosphonic acid anhydride (T3P) at atmospheric CO2 pressure and room temperature. The scope was extended to thiols, yielding aryl- and alkyl S-thiocarbamates under similarly mild conditions.

Herein, a novel fluorescent probe by integrating 4-azide-1,8-naphthalic anhydride and spiropyran was obtained. NT-N3-SP was capable of specifically monitoring H2S by azide reduced. Upon irradiation by alternate ultraviolet and visible light, both the structure and emission of spiropyran moiety in NT-N3-SP can be reversibly tuned. Importantly, the alternation will be interrupted in the presence of SO2. Additionally, NT-N3-SP was successfully used for detection of H2S/SO2 in cells and mice.

A new fragmentative rearrangement of nitrone derivatives to form 9-membered rings is reported. The fragmentations are triggered when nitrones are treated with triflic anhydride; a C-C bond antiperiplanar to the cleaving N-O bond is activated either by an oxygen lone pair or by an electron-rich aromatic ring. In the former case, further cyclization of the 9-membered intermediate leads to a rearranged condensed ring system, but when triggered by arenes, 9-membered ring amides are isolated.

A reliable method for the one-step direct deoxygenation of α-hydroxy ketones has been developed using a silyl lithium reagent and acetic anhydride. The method is metal-catalyst-free and does not require prefunctionalization of the hydroxy group prior to its removal. Deoxygenation of different primary, secondary, and tertiary alcohols was carried out with up to 98% isolated yield. Additionally, double deoxygenation was achieved when the present method was applied to α,β-dihydroxy ketones to access the corresponding enones in a single step.

In the present work, an attempt has been made to synthesize the 1,2,3-triazole derivatives resulting from the click reaction, in a mild and green environment using the new copper(II)-coated magnetic core-shell nanoparticles Fe3O4@SiO2 modified by isatoic anhydride. The structure of the catalyst has been determined by XRD, FE-SEM, TGA, VSM, EDS, and FT-IR analyzes. The high efficiency and the ability to be recovered and reused for at least up to 6 consecutive runs are some superior properties of the catalyst.

Oligodeoxyribonucleotides terminating in a 5'-primary amine group are synthesized using solid-phase supported phosphoramidite chemistry. The 5'-terminal amine group in the deprotected oligomers is further derivatized with either succinic anhydride to give 5'-carboxylic acid or with dithiobis(succinimidylpropionate) followed by treatment with dithioerythritol to produce 5'-thiol-terminated oligonucleotides. The 5'-thiol-terminated oligonucleotides are selectively immobilized on solid supports containing either p-chloromercuribenzoate or 2,2'-dithiobis(5-nitropyridine) activated thiol groups.

A sensitive gas-liquid chromatographic assay for sobrerol in biological fluids has been developed. The assay procedure involves esterification of both hydroxyl groups of sobrerol with pentafluoropropionic anhydride to form the diester which can be quantitated using gas-liquid chromatography-electron-capture detection. The detection limit of plasma sobrerol under the conditions described is 5 ng/ml. The assay procedure permits the measurement of unchanged drug in plasma, whole blood or urine in the presence of its metabolites.
