In this study, we aimed to determine systemic coagulation activity in patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis and to define determinants of a possible prethrombotic state. Peripheral venous plasma level of thrombin-antithrombin III complex was measured in 84 consecutive patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis who had no left atrial thrombus by transesophageal echocardiography. Nanoparticles in physiological environments acquire a biomolecular corona that defines their biological identity, mediating immune system recognition and accelerating blood clearance of the nanoparticles. Typically, low-fouling materials are chosen to minimize protein adsorption and thereby immune system responses, contributing to stealth in blood. However, absolute prevention of the biomolecular corona remains tantalizingly out of reach. Herein, it is proposed to leverage the biomolecular corona rather than preventing its formation, in order to overcome immune responses toward nanoparticles.

Hereditary antithrombin (AT) deficiency is a rare thrombophilia associated with cerebral vein thrombosis (CVT). We report a case study of hereditary AT deficiency causing CVT in three members of a family. A 29-year-old female presented with features of CVT. Her mother and a sister had CVT in the past and investigation for hereditary thrombophilia revealed low blood AT activity in all of them. INTRODUCTION: Activation of the coagulation system and severe acquired antithrombin (AT) deficiency are common and prognostically important findings in sick and preterm neonates. It has been hypothesised that treatment of the acquired AT deficiency with AT concentrate may improve the outcome of conditions such as the neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) and sepsis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed a systematic review of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of AT replacement therapy in newborn infants.

A total of 2674 women were recruited to participate in a multicenter oral contraceptive (OC) study on hemostasis.
